Caregiving

The Family Care Office hosts workshops throughout the year for caregivers and has books about this topic in our library. Please also refer to Navigating Care SystemsElder care, and Young caregivers.

 

Supports Available  

The University’s Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP), offers a variety of no-cost services and supports to all staff, faculty, and librarians and their dependents. Resources include confidential short–term counselling, information, and support for various types of issues including child care and elder care. Available 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. Call toll-free 1-855-597-2110.  

If you are caregiving in Ontario, the Ontario Caregiver Organization, funded by the Government of Ontario, is available to access information about caregiver services and supports in your area. The Ontario Caregiver Helpline is a one-stop resource for information and referrals connecting caregivers to the support you need. Ontario Caregiver Helpline: 1-833-416-2273.  

Ontario Health atHome, a government agency, connects you with the care you need at home, in your community and can assist with long term care options. If you feel that you or someone you know would benefit from health care support at home, Ontario Health atHome provides a wide range of health care services and resources that are covered through the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), and can be provided in a patient’s home or at a nursing clinic. For information and referrals related to home and community care or long-term care home placement, please call 310-2222 for service in English or 310-2272 (no area code required).
