There are many strategies and sources for locating data for a research paper or project.

What follows is highly selective and is not comprehensive.

UTM Library - Data & Statistics
Links to local, national and international data sources. Particularly useful for accessing data for Peel, Durham and other regions and municipalities adjacent to Mississauga.
Map and Data Library, University of Toronto Libraries - Statistics
Use this site to identify other data sources available through the library or on the Web. Use the search box to identify tables by keyword, geography and time period.
< odesi >
< odesi > is a repository of over 5,000 Canadian social science datasets, including Statistics Canada microdata files and statistical tables, as well as a range of public opinion polling data. Additional datasets can be identified through but may not be available at the University of Toronto.
re3data.org (Registry of Research Data Repositories)
A global register of research data repositories from various academic disciplines, searchable by keyword or browsable by subject.
Government of Canada - Open Data Portal
Search for or browse Canadian federal government open data. A general search engine is provided but the 'Search through our Open data portal' offers the option to filter by organization, keywords, formats, etc.
Data.gov
The U.S. government's portal for open data. Searchable by keyword and browsable by topic.
Data Portals
Maintained by the non-profit Open Knowlege Foundation, this is a directory of almost 600 open data portals from around the world.
Open SDG Data Hub
Aggregates open data associated with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Data can be downloaded in tabular and geospatially-referenced formats.
