Make sure you acknowledge your use of other authors’ works.  This is an important part of academic research.

There are many style manuals.  It is best to ask your professor which style guide they prefer you to use.

Here are a few that are generally preferred by many professors:

A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations: Chicago Style for Students and Researchers, by Kate Turabian. 9th ed.

The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed.

The Canadian Style: A Guide to Writing and Editing
