Library Reading List

A user's guide to the Library Reading List app in Quercus.

Reading List Information

The Reading List Information section contains the following details:

  1. Publication status: this status indicates whether the list is available to students. When set to ‘Draft’ it is not visible to students. When set to ‘Published’ it is visible to students.
  2. Course Association: this field outlines which course the reading list is associated to, including the course code, lecture session, and academic term.
  3. Click on the ‘List Info’ link to open additional details about your reading list.

Additional List Info:

  1. Processing Status: this field indicates the processing status of the reading list. The status ‘Ready for Processing’ or ‘Being Prepared’ indicates the library staff are still working on gathering the readings. The status ‘Complete’ indicates the library staff have completed processing the reading list.
  2. Last Sent to Library: these details appear on a published list and indicate who sent the list, and when it was sent. These details update if an item is added to the published list.
  3. Last Updated: this field indicates when the reading list was last updated.
  4. Items and Sections: this field indicates the number of citations and sections in the list.
  5. Collaborators: this section provides a list of instructors associated with the course and the library staff working on the processing of the reading list.

Student View

Student view of the Reading List:

In order to view the list from the student’s perspective click the ellipses in the menu at the top and select ‘View List as a Student’.

Why Can’t Students See the Readings? As an instructor you see all the features of the list, including what isn’t available to students yet, as well the citations/materials that are still processing. Ensure your list is Published and made visible in Quercus. Citations with a status of ‘Library Processing’ mean library staff are still working on approving or fulfilling the citations. These will not be available to students until they are set to complete by library staff.

Sections

Your course readings can be grouped into sections. The sections available for courses will vary depending on the structure of the individual courses. Readings added to your reading list are called ‘citations’ in the Library Reading List tool. The number of citations available in each section is provided after the section title.

To open a section and view the citations, click on the section name. Each citation indicates the resource type (highlighted here in yellow). Any citations which show the status of ‘Library Processing’ indicate that they are being worked on by library staff, are not available to students, and will be set to complete by staff. Citations without this status are complete and available for student access.

Accessing the Readings

Accessing the Readings:
