1. Object selection and initial questions Grade: 10% Due: In-class September 24
Length: 2-3 pages
For this assignment, you will select at least ONE (1) of the portraits that you will be working on for the rest of the semester. NB This portrait does not have to be the ONLY work you choose to include in your project, but it must feature somewhere in your work.
All subsequent assignments will be based on this one artwork (that is, you cannot chose Artwork 1 for assignment 1 and 2, but Artwork 2 for your third assignment, etc.) Give a description of your artwork (as well as all relevant information such as title, date, materials, artist or culture, size, etc.). Be sure to discuss why you have chosen this piece, what you initially feel is interesting or challenging or attractive, and the kinds of questions you feel will be important to ask and address when you are communicating about this artwork. Why do you think this artwork is important to talk about?
2. Annotated Bibliography Grade: 10% Due: In-class October 22
An annotated bibliography is a bibliography intended to direct the reader to specific ideas and issues related to the research topic being pursued. The author of the annotated bibliography includes specific comments about each book, article or website. Like an ordinary bibliography, the works are arranged in alphabetical order, and the comments are usually placed under each citation.
