Infusing Indigenous Perspectives in K-12 Teaching

This guide is designed to help Initial Teacher Education students find materials that centre or focus on First Nations, Métis, and Inuit worldviews, experiences and knowledges for teaching in the K-12 classroom.

Searching for Dual Indigenous Language Materials

NOTE: This method will only assist in finding dual language materials in the Children's Literature Collection. While we are standardizing the names used for Indigenous languages in our catalogue, there are still items that will bear a different language name (e.g. Anishinaabemowin vs. Ojibwe). We are working on this process.

Search steps:

  • Consider which Indigenous language you want to use (e.g. Cree)
  • In the Advanced Search section, select Search for: Catalogue
  • From the "Format" drop-down menu, choose the Books option
  • In the search bar, type "Dual Language [Indigenous language]" (e.g. dual language Cree)
  • Choose the Call Number option from the “Any field” drop-down menu.

advanced search bar: Call number contains "dual language cree"
