Formerly the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) Music Canada was founded in 1963 by a group of 10 recording companies. They have since expanded their membership, and include a number of independent labels and distributors. Music Canada is governed by a board of directors who are elected annually by association members.
Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA)
CIMA is the not-for-profit national trade association representing the English-language, Canadian-owned sector of the music industry. CIMA’s membership consists of Canadian-owned companies and representatives of Canadian-owned companies involved in every aspect of the music, sound recording and music-related industries.
Formed in 2014 with the support of Music Canada to serve what they saw as the under-served specific needs of Canada's live music industry.
