This guide provides recommended K-12 teaching resources for students enrolled in the Master of Teaching and Master of Arts in Child Study and Education programs at OISE.

Mathematics

Virtual Manipulatives

  • Didax: Simple, browser-based manipulatives for teaching foundational math concepts, like ten-frames, number boards, base ten blocks, etc. 
  • Hour of Code: Tutorials and games that promote computational thinking.
  • Toy Theater Teacher Tools: Interactive manipulatives and assessment tools to teach basic math. 
  • Math Playground: Virtual math games and puzzles, organized by grade level. 
  • Visual Patterns: Bank of visual patterns used to practice algebraic reasoning and critical thinking. 
  • TVO Learn mPower: Game-based learning resources for K-6 that build curriculum-aligned math skills. 

OISE Library Manipulatives and Kits

  • TVOLearn – Mathematics: Learning Activities, organized by grade level, that align with the Ontario Curriculum. Includes Minds On, Action, and Consolidation.
    • To find Math resources, start by selecting a grade level, and then filter by "Mathematics." 
  • Math Ontario: Math resources that align with the most recent version of Ontario's elementary math curriculum. Educators can search collections by Ontario Mathematics Curriculum Expectations. 
  • youcubed: Established by a team from the Stanford Graduate School of Education, these math tasks are intended to inspire positive mindset and creativity in learners.  
  • NCTE Classroom Resources: Contains a wide variety of interactive games, lesson plans, and a searchable bank of math problems.
