The Ministry of Health (MOH), Emergency Health Services (EHS), is responsible for publishing standards for patient care, documentation, safety, equipment requirements and transportation. These requirements are outlined in various paramedic practice documents: standards, training bulletins, manuals and guides. This website provides access to these documents.

The Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC) introduced the National Occupational Competency Profile for paramedics along with the professional titles in March 2000. This was done to define the profession, promote national consistency in paramedic training and practice, and lastly, to facilitate job mobility for practitioners. The document contains a set of four integrated competency profiles that define the competencies of paramedic and emergency medical responders within Canada.

The Association is a national organization of prehospital practitioners. Its mission is to provide quality care for the public through leadership in the advancement of the profession of paramedicine.

The Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators (COPR) is comprised of self-regulating colleges and government regulators of the Paramedic profession in Canada. The purpose of COPR is to facilitate collective and collaborative action in current and future interests of pan-Canadian Paramedic regulation and to support the development of a common understanding of provincial and federal obligations that may impact regulator functions.

Toronto Paramedic Services is the largest municipal Paramedic Service in Canada. It provides 24-hour pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency care and transportation to and between hospitals for ill or injured individuals.

Ontario’s emergency health services system is made up of: (1) emergency medical services provided through land and air ambulance, (2) ambulance communication services to connect patients with ambulance care, and (3) base hospital programs that support paramedics and the ambulance system. All of these emergency health services work together to provide timely pre-hospital care to people across Ontario. They are regulated under the Ambulance Act, its regulations and standards.

Currently, paramedics working in ambulance services are regulated under the Ambulance Act.
