Which Tools to Use

Once you’ve done your research and determined a strong and clear main idea for your infographic, you’ll have to figure out which type of infographic tools you’ll make use of! Consider the subject matter, the primary data you’ve looked at, and the main conclusions you want your audience to come to. Based on these factors, determine which category would be the best starting point for your project!

  • Canva 
    • Canva is an online graphic-design tool. It offers templates for many types of designs, including presentations, posters, flyers, infographics, and social media posts. It uses a drag-and-drop format and provides access to photographs, vector files, graphics, and fonts. 
  • Piktochart 
    • Piktochart is a web-based tool for creating infographics. It provides templates that are easy to modify to fit your preferences for theme, color, graphics, and more. It also allows you to import data from Excel, Google Docs, CSV files, and more. 
      • The Map and Data Library has created a tutorial to get started with Piktochart. 
  • Infogr.am 
    • Infogr.am is an online tool that lets you create super simple interactive graphics. 
  • Easel.ly 
    • A free website that allows you to create infographics using premade templates or start from scratch. Everything is drag-and-drop and can be formatted to suit your tastes. Easel.ly also provides a gallery of infographics made by other users to serve as inspiration.
