Museum Collections

Impressionist artworks reside in many museums and galleries. Here is a very select list of institutions with important colections of Impressionist works.

Musée Marmottan Monet
features over three hundred Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings by Claude Monet, including his 1872 Impression, Sunrise. It is the largest collection of his works.
Musée de l'Orangerie
The Musée de l'Orangerie is an art gallery of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings located in the west corner of the Tuileries Gardens next to the Place de la Concorde in Paris
Musée d'Orsay
The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986. It is one of the largest art museums in Europe.

The Barnes Foundation
The Barnes is home to one of the world’s greatest collections of impressionist, post-impressionist, and early modernist paintings, with especially deep holdings in Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso.
The Davies Sisters collection
Gwendoline Davies (1882–1951) and Margaret Davies (1884–1963), two sisters from mid-Wales, amassed one of the great British art collections of the 20th century. Together, they bequeathed 260 works to the National Museum of Wales in 1951 and 1963, completely transforming its art collection in character, quality and range.
The Courthauld Institute of Art
Known primarily for its Impressionist collection, London’s Courtauld Gallery showcases the work of Monet and Degas as well as those of post-Impressionist artists Cezanne and van Gogh.
