UTORvpn & Student IT Resources

Student Software in UTSC Computer Labs
IITS maintains Apple and PC workstations distributed across several computing spaces on the North and South UTSC Campus. All inquiries regarding these labs should be sent to the Student HelpDesk.
UTORvpn
UTORvpn is a general, remote access, VPN service. It connects your computer to the University’s network and protects the traffic across suspect intermediate networks such as hotels and coffee shops. UTORvpn cannot be combined with other network security measures such as Anonymous VPNs or TOR. When connected, all internet traffic from your computer will pass through UTORvpn. You will sign into UTORvpn using your UTORid and password.

It can be used for easier access to library e-resources and access other services which may be restricted to general on-campus networks.

The computer lab contains a collection of data analysis, video editing, publishing, and document viewer software.

Tools for Drawing Chemical Structures

The ChemDraw software is loaded on all the bookable computers in the UTSC Library.

You will need to download and register before you can use this software for home use. The software license is renewed each October/November. Once you've installed the software look for the green ChemDraw icon since other associated applications (Chem 3D) may also be installed with the ChemOffice Suite if you're on a Windows computer.

If you already have ChemDraw installed and want to reactivate your license for another year, simply open ChemDraw (select Cancel on the pop up window about renewing) and then select "Help" (Windows/PC) OR the ChemDraw icon at top left corner of the window (Apple/Macs) and choose "Activate Chemdraw". Enter the new activation code and select "activate". You can confirm all is good by clicking on the "About Chemdraw" under Help and it should say it is renewed until next October.

Need help locating your new activation code? The activation code is always available under Order History on your Perkin Elmer flexnet account where you downloaded the software.

If you are unable to open Chemdraw for some reason, the easiest thing to do is uninstall it and reinstall the latest copy.

Useful for quick drawing to copy and paste into a report. For greater functionality (including saving drawings) please install the ChemDraw application.

NMR Processing Software

MestreNova NMR Processing Software
You'll need to download the license files before you can begin using the MNova software. It is free for you to download and use on the University of Toronto campuses and off-campus after activation. Please note you'll need to be connected to the UTORvpn in order to activate the license files.
