CTL 7006: Educational Research 1

This guide is to support the in-class library research workshop for Masters of Teaching students in the course, CTL 7006: Educational Research 1

Narrowing Search Results

You can use the facets or filters in databases to narrow your search. Some ways you can narrow your search is by:

  • Peer Reviewed
  • Scholarly
  • Format (i.e articles, books, newspapers, dissertations)
  • Date range/Publication date
  • Subject: You can include or exclude subject headings with which your articles have been tagged.

Saving Search Results

  • Save your articles to your citation manager (RefWorks, Zotero, etc.) or email them to yourself for later reference.
  • You can also create accounts in some databases that allow you to save your search history and re-run your searches.
  • Consider keeping track of your search string (simply by copying and pasting it) to systematically review your searches over time. You might also find the "Tracking your Searches" handout useful for recording your searches.
