3D Printing in Dentistry

Three-dimensional printing was once an extremely expensive and complex undertaking. Now, 3D printers are available for home and office use and dentists around the world are finding new and exciting ways to use this technology to improve patient outcomes.

3D Printing at the University of Toronto

As a student, faculty or staff member at the University of Toronto, you have access to different 3D printing options on the St George (Downtown) campus. Below you will find detailed information on accessing 3D printing at Robarts Library and the Gerstein Science Information Centre. 

Not a current student, faculty or staff member? You can access 3D printing services in Toronto through several Toronto Public Library branches. Visit their website for a list of locations and more information on 3D printing at the Toronto Public Library.  

Gerstein + MADLab

Location: 1st floor basement of the Gerstein Science Information Centre, room B112 

Cost: please contact MadLab for more details 

Who can print: all University of Toronto faculty, students and staff members with valid a TCard and appropriate certification. 

Certification  

All members must be certified before using either of the MadLab’s two 3D printers. Certification includes:  

  • passing a 3D printing knowledge test (completed online) 

  • attending a safety and training session in-person at the MADLab  

  • signing safety waivers

Robarts Digital Studio

Location: 1st floor of Robarts Library 

Cost: Please contact lab for more details

Who can print: All University of Toronto faculty, students and staff with valid a TCard and appropriate certification.  

Certification  

All members must be certified before using either of the Digital Studio’s two 3D printers.  

Certification includes:  

  • taking the in-person certification course offered by the Digital Studio 

  • passing a 3D printing knowledge test (completed online) 

  • signing safety waivers
