Searching for books is similar to searching for journal articles, except for WHERE you search.
Start by combining keywords using AND, OR, NOT.
When you find a book that you like, check that it is IN and then select the 'Get Help' button to see if it can either be accessed online through the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) or if it can requested through the library's pickup service.
If you're off campus and ONLY want to see the items that can be accessed remotely, you can also limit your search results by selecting 'online' filter.
When you have found a book that seems useful, don't forget to look at its subject entries; if you see one that looks good, click that to get to other titles that have been given that subject heading.
You can narrow down the search results in the catalog a number of different ways, including by location (1), by subject (2), and many other ways including publication year, language, and format (such as "book" or "film") (3 - scroll down).
Search for the book you would like to access in the library catalogue.
Click the 'Get Help' button in the catalogue record.
If the book is available in the HathiTrust ETAS, a page will appear linking you to the ETAS.
After reading the terms of use statement on the page, click the 'I have read and agree with the above statement' button.
Click the yellow LOG IN button in HathiTrust.
Find and select the University of Toronto in the list of partner institutions.
Log in with your UTORid and password.
You will now see a 'temporary access' link in the catalogue record for your book.
