The Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library houses the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections including books, manuscripts and other materials.

The International Collection of Digitized Hebrew Manuscripts will enable global centralized digital access to the complete corpus of existing Hebrew manuscripts. The images will be preserved long-term using state of the art technology, and the collection will be accessible to international communities of researchers and users from the comfort of their own institutions and homes.

This website contains all manuscripts and a selection of printed books, marriage contracts and Esther scrolls that were shown in the exhibitions of the Braginsky Collection in the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana in Amsterdam, in Yeshiva University Museum in New York, in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, in the Landesmuseum (Swiss National Museum) in Zurich and in the Jewish Museum in Berlin, between 2009 and 2014.

The aim of this project is the first ever scientific engagement with the Western European (Ashkenazic) Masorah tradition between the 11th and 14th centuries, which differs from the oriental Masorah not only with respect to philological content but also regarding its layout and mise en texte as masora figurata. By means of certain exegetical and artistic features, the Ashkenazic scholars tried to integrate the oriental Masoretic tradition that was originally developed as linguistic grammatical knowledge vis à vis Islamic punditry into Western European Rabbinic lore and law.
The anticipated results in this project will shed new light on the European history of the Masoretic Bible and its interpretation, and yield important scientific impulses not only for Jewish Studies, but also for Jewish and Christian theology as well as medieval art history.

The goal of Footprints: Jewish Books Through Time and Place is a database to track the circulation of printed "Jewish books" (in Hebrew, other Jewish languages, and books in Latin and non-Jewish vernaculars with Judaica contents). Much information about the movement of early printed books exists, but in scattered form: individual copies, catalogs from libraries and booksellers, estate inventories, subscription lists, and other kinds of archival documents. All of these individual pieces of data can connect to each other in order to build up a composite view of the movement of Jewish texts and ideas from place to place and across time.

Jewish Book Culture in the Islamicate World is an international collaborative project funded by DFG and AHRC. Its aim is to study Jewish books, their makers and their readers in the medieval eastern Mediterranean. JBC draws on a large corpus of manuscripts produced in Egypt and the Near East in the ninth to thirteenth centuries and on the wealth of information about books, their production, trade, collecting and reading found in literary texts, documents and letters from the Cairo Geniza. The project enrols multidisciplinary methods of codicology, palaeography and general book history to study books as objects and as essential actors in the transmission of texts, practices and ideas.

HebrewPal combines traditional Hebrew palaeography with new developments in digital technology. Based on a palaeographical method originally devised and taught by Judith Olszowy-Schlanger, the Hebrew Palaeography Album in its present digital format has been developed by an international research team in three institutions: Oxford University, Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich, and a research cluster SAPRAT (Savoirs et pratiques du moyen âge à l'époque contemporaine) of the École Pratique des Hautes Etudes, PSL. Paris, led by Ronny Vollandt and Judith Olszowy-Schlanger. Originally a part of a DFG/AHRC project 'Jewish Book Culture in the Islamicate World', the Album has been expanded to include Hebrew books, documents, and epigraphy from all areas of Jewish diaspora. Launched in 2022, HebrewPal is designed to be broadened to include further research partners and institutions.

Yerusha (Hebrew for "inheritance") is an online platform which unites Jewish archival heritage held in hundreds of archives, libraries and museums across Europe. An initiative of the Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe, Yerusha features thousands of in-depth archival descriptions giving researchers access to a wealth of records covering all major subjects of Jewish history.

Archives featured on the website are part of a national network of state, local and communal archives that will enable you to discover more about the history of Jews and the Jewish community in Britain. It might even help you uncover some of your own family’s history.

The Blavatnik Archive is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to preserving and disseminating primary sources that contribute to the study of 20th-century Jewish and world history, with a special emphasis on Soviet history and World War I, World War II, and the interwar period.

Jewish Theatre Under Stalinism collection contains archival documents that describe the history of Soviet culture and theater, Jewish avant-garde art, and the Kremlin's policy toward Jewish society and culture from 1919 until 1949. Documents include correspondence with ministries, state organizations, and authors; administrative managerial documents; and plays performed by or submitted to the theater. Of interest to scholars in Drama and performance studies, Soviet history and studies, Jewish history and studies, and literature.

Part of the Digital Forum Central and Eastern Europe e.V. (DiFMOE, Munich) , this collection consists of several parts:
I. 16 historical newspapers that were produced in the former Austrian and then Romanian Bukovina in the interwar period, mainly under Jewish editorship in German and Yiddish, as well as the “Czernowitzer Deutsche Tagespost”, a newspaper which, after 1933, in unison with and supported by Berlin, participated in the numerous anti-Semitic smear campaigns that ultimately resulted in the extermination of a large part of the Jewish population in Bukovina, and “Die Stimme”, launched in 1944 by Elias Weinstein in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine and still published in Israel today, which became a printed information and communication platform for survivors after the Holocaust.
II. DiFMOE, in cooperation with the Czernowitz Discussion Group, the global virtual association of around 500 Jewish Bukovinian Holocaust survivors and their descendants, integrated selected parts of the group's own archive with valuable personal and family documents in the digital library. Within the JEWISH GERMAN BUKOVINA 1918+ collection, the around 1,000 objects can be viewed both in their entirety and sorted by the individual private collections of the members.
III. "The Correspondence of Elias Hauster": The German administrator of the Czernowitz Discussion Group, Edgar Hauster, made a special source available from his personal family archive: 122 letters from the correspondence of grandfather Elias Hauster with his son Julius Hauster (the second son Maximilian was murdered in Auschwitz in 1943) give the reader a profound impression of everyday life, of mental life, but above all of the great plight of the Romanian Holocaust survivors immediately after the end of the Second World War (1946-1949). The high-resolution scans of the handwritten letters were combined with the transcriptions in a digitally created book and thus made full-text searchable.

Establishment of Jewish settlements in the occupied territories has been Israel’s largest national undertaking of the last half century but has attracted little scholarly research. The purpose of the Settlement Archival Research Project is to facilitate access to official records. The Taub Center for Israel Studies (TCIS) has identified almost 12,000 relevant files held by the Israel State Archives (ISA), the Israel Defense Forces Archives (IDFA), Knesset plenary debates and committee records, and records of the Israeli Supreme Court and lower courts. Over 8,000 of these files have already been catalogued, and the cataloguing continues.

The Alex Dworkin Canadian Jewish Archives collects and preserves documentation on all aspects of the Jewish presence in Quebec and Canada. Notable aspects of the Canadian Jewish community reflected in the collections include immigration, integration into Canadian society, community organization, Zionism, human rights issues and discrimination, oppressed Jewry in other countries, education, literature, and genealogy.

ULY – Union List of Yiddish – is a joint effort of four institutions with substantial Yiddish collection, YIVO (Institute for Jewish Research), YBC (Yiddish Book Center), NYPL (New York Public Library) and the National Library of Israel. The goal in this project is to create a full catalog of Yiddish publications, allow one search and link back to the different institutions and add a link to a digital copy where possible.

The Berman Archive—formerly the Berman Jewish Policy Archive—documents American Jewish Communities. With open access to digital artifacts from 1900 to the present, we’re the largest archive of the printed material of communal American Jewish life. We’re a platform for knowledge and intellectual engagement with ideas, data, and points of view that have defined and sustained the American Jewish experience.

Otzar HaHochma is the world's largest digital library, containing more than 110,564 Judaic books, scanned page after page in their original format. The books encompass all realms of Judaism from ancient times to the modern period and the database includes a sophisticated search engine.

The Jewish Diaspora Collection (JDoC) is a collaborative and cooperative digital library designed to preserve and provide wide access to Jewish heritage materials from Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean. JDoC provides a host site and portal for digitized versions of hidden and/or endangered Jewish cultural, historical and research materials currently held in archives, libraries, and private collections.

The Edward Blank YIVO Vilna Online Collections project is an international project to preserve, digitize, and virtually reunite YIVO’s prewar library and archival collections located in New York City and Vilnius, Lithuania, through a dedicated web portal. The project will also digitally reconstruct the historic, private Strashun Library of Vilna, one of the great prewar libraries of Europe.

The Rabat Genizah Project brings together an international team of community representatives, scholars, archivists, and information technologists to develop a digital archive of Moroccan Jewish documents.

Aims to make accessible a comprehensive library of Hebrew literature for Hebrew readers (from early piyyut to contemporary fiction), preserve it and expose it for new audiences. Project Ben-Yehuda is the largest, open and digitized Hebrew library in the world, with more than 22,000 literary works by more than 300 writers (mostly in the public domain). Over the years, more than 1000 volunteers have created digital editions of poetry and prose, but also essays, letters, memoirs, non-fiction and reference works, and translations into Hebrew of works from ancient literature to 20th century works.

The Digital Library of the Middle East (DLME) offers free and open access to the rich cultural legacy of the Middle East and North Africa by bringing together collections from a wide range of cultural heritage institutions. Developed by an engineering team from CLIR and Stanford Libraries, the platform federates and makes accessible data about collections from around the world.

Compact Memory was one of the first projects to digitize Jewish periodicals from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its current list includes over 100 periodicals (including many of the most important journals of the 19th century) printed from 1806-1938.
