Set up your Miro Account (only Education Accounts)

Register for a Miro Education Account

Please note that these instructions are only applicable to Instructors / Teachers and Students. UofT Libraries does not have an Institutional account a this time (Fall 2023).  For Departmental inquiries, please visit Miro.com's Education Plan to learn more about the options available. 

 

To get started on your poster, you'll need to create a Miro Education account (different from free account). The educational account for students lasts 2 years and provides access to: 1 workspace with ​unlimited boards and unlimited projects, the option to set boards a private,  unlimited external guests,​ and pre-made and custom templates

Follow these steps to set up your account:

  1. Visit https://miro.com/education-whiteboard, locate Student section and click on 'Apply as student' button (to see all the features) or visit Apply for a free education account                                                                                              
  2. Make sure ‘Student’ is selected for your role​Screenshot of Miro's sign up
  3. Enter your first and last name​
  4. Enter your UofT email address​ -  mail.utoronto.ca is recognized by Miro as a valid educational institution so green approval message should appear: ​ 'Doman successfully verified'
  5. For the following answers to the questions: 
    1. Where do you study/work?​ Select ‘Higher University or College’ from the dropdown menu. 
    2. Educational Institution: ​ Type 'University of Toronto' 
    3. What will you use Miro for?:​ Type ‘I am using Miro for school assignments’ ​ ​
  6. Submit Application: ​ Click the ‘Submit’ button at bottom of screen​

Once created you can use the regular login page to access your miro account: MIRO Login

 

Set up your Profile  

  • Click the avatar (upper right corner). This section provide links to log out of Miro or edit your profile.
  • Select Settings in the pop-up menu to edit your name, change your email/password, and upload a profile picture.

Create a Miro board

A Miro board is an online whiteboard that you can use to visualize your ideas, work on projects either individually or synchronously with your group. 

 

Set Permissions for your Miro Board. 
  • Using these directions on 'Changing a Private Board to Private' to change the settings to 'No access' or 'Can view' to control who can see or edit the board. 
  • It will be important to change your sharing privileges so the rest of the URB236 Team 'Can view' so other students in the Team can see your work. 

 

Move your Board from Education Team to URB236 Team

You can move your board from your dashboard in the Education Team to URB236 if your instructor added your email or sent you an invite to join the team. Review these Miro instructions to move a board to another team.

Board settings

Board settings are available in the top-right corner of the board. You can also open the settings by right-clicking canvas.

From the settings, you can: 

  • show/hide reactions 

  • show/hide collaborators cursors 

Working on the board

You can create, import, move, edit, and delete objects on your board - all the changes that you make on the board are saved in real-time. Find detailed instructions in these articles. You can also watch these videos for visual walk-throughs.

Board information card

You can set all of this in the board information card: 

  • Create a title 

  • Set a cover picture 

  • Add a description 

  • Add the board to a corresponding project 

  • Mark the boards that you refer to most frequently with a star. 

In this menu, you can delete and duplicate the board.
