Tips to Explore a Topic

  • Break apart your topic
  • Research a broader and/or narrower topic/category to find applicable research
  • Research each part separately
  • Research some parts in combination with others
  • Make connections between components of your topic, based on your research
  • Identify what literature exists and what does not
  • Notice patterns in the research
  • Situate your findings in the context of the research and any gaps
  • Substantiate your argument using the research and any gaps
