Medscape contains medical review articles, journal commentary, patient education articles and book reviews among other content which is organized by medical speciality. It has content geared towards the health professional, student and the public. Users must register with Medscape; this can be done through the application and is free.

Epocrates features include: drug prescribing and safety information on thousands of drugs, drug interaction checker, pill identification tool, calculators able to complete dozens of calculations, evidence-based guidelines and monographs on alternative medications.

MedCalX was created with the purpose of equipping medical professionals with the ability to complete medical formulas, scores and classifications. More formula options are available through in-app purchase.

MediCalc consists of over 500 clinical formulas, equations and scores. This app now features mCalx, a medical calculator that allows for custom, disease and patient specific calculations. Available through Google Play and the App Store.

The Calculate by QxMD app serves a dual purpose as clinical calculator and decision support tool. Over 400 unique calculators are supplied for use. Possible calculations include: ideal body weight, BMI, due date and gestational age, Kt/v in dialysis patients, A-a gradient and more.

UpToDate

UpToDate is available for University of Toronto students only - to use the app, U of T students must first register with a username and password with UpToDate.

To use the app:

Step 1)  Go to UpToDate and click on My Account and then on Login/Register Now.  Fill in the form and create your own user name and password.  You will then be sent an email message with additional registration information.
Step 2)  Download the UpToDate App for your device.
Step 3)  Sign into the app with the username and password you created on the UpToDate website.


Note: In order to maintain remote access to UpToDate, UpToDate needs to know that you are still affiliated with the University of Toronto. Simply Log in to www.uptodate.com/login from the University of Toronto network every 90 days or click here to find other ways to verify your affiliation.

CPS (formerly RxTx)

CPS (formerly RxTx) Mobile app features: access to thousands of Health Canada-approved monographs, CPhA evidence based, peer-reviewed monographs covering more than 300 drugs, including valuable guidance on off-label uses, Health Canada advisories and alerts posted within 48 hours of issue, content available both on and off-line.

To download the app for free through the University of Toronto Libraries:

Step 1) Go to Connect to CPS (formerly RxTx). Click on Get the Code at the bottom of the screen to obtain the Organization Code.
Step 2) Visit www.pharmacists.ca/register4rxtx and enter the Organization Code and complete your registration.
Step 3) Go to the Apple/Google Play App Store from your smartphone/tablet and search for CPS by CPhA (formerly RxTx Mobile).
Step 4) Once installed, enter your email address and the password created during registration - this step is only required the first time the app is opened.
