Encyclopedias

Below is a selection of linguistic encyclopedias University of Toronto Libraries has to offer. To find more:

  • On the following page, select your topic or academic disclipine: Linguistics
  • From the list of Linguistics resources, select the 'Encyclopedias, dictionaries etc.' tab

Bibliographies

To search for more bibliographies in the catalogue follow these steps:

  • Start at the library homepage
  • Select the red 'catalogue' tab
  • Enter: linguistics bibliography in the search field
  • Select 'subject' from the drop down menu to the right

Language Atlases

For language atlases:

  • Start at the library homepage
  • Select the red 'catalogue' tab
  • Click on 'advanced search' underneath the search field
  • On the following page, select 'browse search'

                                       

 

  • On the following page, enter one of the following subject headings:
    • Language and languages maps
    • Linguistic geography
  • Select 'subject' from the drop down menu to the right & click search

                                          

  • Note that linguistic geography further subdivides by regions & by formats i.e. Altases or Maps
  • The number beside each entry tells you the number of items in the catalogue with that particular subject heading
  • Click on the subject heading to see the catalogue records for the items
