Evidence-based dental practice: searching the literature and writing a report

This guide will help you search and assess literature to support dental research questions.

Step Two - Choose the right databases for your topic

The next step is to identify the appropriate database for your topic. It is acceptable to use internet search engines as a starting point, but please carefully evaluate what you find. There are many databases available at U of T that provide valuable information for evidence-based dentistry.

Filtered Databases

The term 'filtered' refers to the fact that these databases have been set up to provide results that are filtered to a specific type of literature such as clinial trials or patient information.

Unfiltered Databases

The term 'unfiltered' refers to that fact that the database will retrieve multiple types of litarature including research papers, conference papers, clinical trials, reviews, etc.
