Many SSM1100 students use SPSS software for data analysis and visualization.  The resources below can help you become proficient in SPSS.

Current university students, faculty and staff at the University of Toronto have free access to 1400+ online, self-paced courses in LinkedIn Learning (formerly  A valid UTORid is required for access.

You can access LinkedIn Learning here.

Use the top search box to search for ‘SPSS Statistics Essentials Training’ for a 10-part, 5 hour+ series of training videos.  This includes instruction on charting within SPSS.  Videos may be watched sequentially or out of sequence.  Transcripts for each video are also available.

YouTube offers many useful tutorials on using various aspects or features of SPSS.  Here's two suggested resources:

  • Research by Design is a popular channel that offers instructional videos and playlists on both statistics in general and SPSS.  Diving Deeper into SPSS for Beginners is a Research by Design playlist of 9 videos that highlight tips and tricks for both novice and experienced users of SPSS. 
  • How2Stats has many SPSS help videos available.


E-books available through the Library can be found by using the library catalogue

Use the pull-down menu to select the 'Title' field besides the search box and search on ‘SPSS.'  You can then filter your results by selecting the ‘Online’ option under ‘Refine your search’.
