How to use LibrarySearch

A guide to using the University of Toronto Libraries’ search tool

Advanced search

If your topic needs more than a single word or phrase to describe it, the Advanced Search function can help you build a more complex search.   

When opening Advanced Search, you will see two lines where a search term can be entered. You also have the option of adding additional lines.

Once you have entered your search terms, you can also place limits on how and where your terms are searched.

Use the drop-down menus to tell LibrarySearch where to look for each search term within item records. For example, you can limit your search to titles or author names. Click on any drop-down menu to view the available filters.

Use the drop-down menus to tell LibrarySearch to only include items in your results that adhere to specific criteria. For instance, use the format filters to only see results that fit a specific format like books or articles.

Use the language filter to only see results published in a specific language.

Use the date selector to limit your results to items published during a specific time period.

Combining multiple options allows you to build more complex searches that your research may require.
