CCT419H5: User Experience Design - UXD and Board Games (Fall 2022)

3D printing is now available at the UTM Library.  The space where 3D printing will be available to the whole UTM community is not yet ready, but students in CCT419 can book time to print their 3d models or request to have their models printed by submitting their files and picking up their objects when they are finished printing.  Prints will be available in about two business days.

To start, fill out this form and then email your files to Mike Serafin at mike.serafin@utoronto.ca.

Some notes about 3D printing:

• Please limit model sizes to 10cm x 10cm x 10cm
• Printing is free for academic purposes
• Models are printed in white
  • Models can be painted afterwards, if desired
  • Here is a link to a quick video explaining how to paint 3D prints
• Recommended file types are .STL files
  • If there are issues with your file or file type, you will be contacted

3D design and printing workflow

Below are general steps used to create and print 3D models:

1. Design a model in 3D design software like Tinkercad (web app) or Blender (download and install) or other design software.
   It is also possible to download already created 3D files at websites like Thingiverse where you can download and then modify the files in Tinkercad.
2. Save or export your model as an STL - stereolithography file. 
3. Open your STL file in a "slicer" program.  The UTM Library uses Ultimaker Cura for this.  When you slice a file, it prepares the model for printing.
4. Send this new file to the printer and begin printing.
5. Wait.
6. If desired, finish file by sanding, printing, and protecting.

If you are 3D printing for this class, you are to complete steps 1 and 2.
