Accessing FactSet

FactSet Web is found here: https://login.factset.com/

Everyone is also welcome to visit the Finance Learning Centre in-person, where FactSet is installed on all workstations and a personal account isn't required for access.

FLC workstations are available remotely when the FLC is closed. Instructions for remote access to FLC workstations are through the Parallels platform and can be found through the FLC Software page. If you encounter difficulties with remote access, please reach out to I&ITS. 

Company and Comparables Research using FactSet

Comps Analysis

To search for comparable or peer companies for your selected company:

  • Click on the Company/Security tab in the top horizontal bar
  • Enter the name of the company (or the stock ticker) in the search box in the upper left corner
  • FactSet will auto-suggest matches for your company; click to select a name and this company's information will be loaded 
  • You will find lots of Company information from the left-hand menu, including a snapshot profile, financial information, and filings
  • Scroll down the left-hand menu, under the Overviews options, to 'Comps Analysis'
  • 'Comps Analysis' provides:
    • A table of comparable companies that can be customized
    • Key financial statistics for each company, according to which criteria you choose to display
  • To learn more about customizing the comparable/peer tables, including adding and deleting companies, click on the ? in the upper right-hand corner of the Comps Analysis screen. This will open FactSet Help for this specific report.

Ratio Analysis

The Ratio Analysis report consolidates key per share items and common valuation metrics for companies.

  • Within the Company/Security tab, and once you've loaded your company of interest, scroll down the left-hand menu to Financials.
  • Open the Ratio Analysis tab for a full table including all of the types of analysis available to you, including the DuPont Analysis.
  • The Ratio Analysis report is specific to the selected company's industry, so you may notice differences within the report depending on the company you specify.
  • For further help with this screen and report, click on the ? in the upper right-hand corner for FactSet's Online Assistant.
  • You can download the report in Excel or PDF.
