POLC79: Feminist Political Thought

Explore this site to select a topic for your assignment.

Getting Started: Select Your Topic

  • Explore sources found on this site to select an example of feminist political activity (with a focus on groups more than individuals) which occurred in Canada from any historical moment or today.   The action you select should NOT have been covered in class.
  • For your assignment, you will analyze  this case in light of the ideas we have encountered in the history of feminist thought during this course.

NOTE:   Remember that you cannot choose any topics that are covered in class e.g. the National Action Committee (NAC), Royal Commission on the  Status of Women.

  • However, you may review relevant documents (such as the final report by the Royal Commission on the Status of Women) to brainstorm possible related topics.
  • Not sure if a topic is covered in class (and therefore unacceptable for this assignment)?   Check your syllabus and ask your instructor if you're unsure.

Tips for Selecting Sources

Consider the following criteria when selecting a source from this site or your own research:

  1. Relevance: Is the source relevant to your assignment topic?
    • E.g. select an example of feminist political activity (with a focus on groups more than individuals) which occurred in Canada from any historical moment or today.   The action you select should NOT have been covered in class.
  2. Authority:  Is the author of the source qualified to write on the topic?   Who is the publisher and are they authoritative?
  3. Objectivity:  Is the source objective or biased?
