Online Score Sources
Below are several databases with which you can access scores online. To learn more about accessing scores online thorugh these and other resources, check out our "Accessing Digital Music Scores" blog post, by collection librarian Trevor Deck.
- Beethoven-Haus Bonn: Digital ArchivesThis digital archive contains musical manuscripts, first editions, letters, and pictures from the Beethoven-Haus collections. The sizeable collection comprises 6,100 documents on 37,600 coloured scans of high quality, 1,600 audio files (music examples, audio letters) and 7,600 text files.
- Choral Public Domain LibraryThe Choral Public Domain Library (CPDL), is an internet-based free sheet music website specializing in choral music. Currently the collection contains over 10,000 different works.
- Classical Scores Library: Volume 1-4 This link opens in a new windowThe Music Online: Classic Scores Library is a four-volume series aimed at providing reliable and authoritative sources for scores of the classical canon, and lesser-known contemporary works, encompassing all major classical musical genres and time periods from the Middle Ages to the 21st century.
- Contemporary Music Score CollectionThe Contemporary Music Score Collection is published by the UCLA Music Library. The collection includes the digital, open access scores from the Contemporary Score Edition series, the first open access edition of new music published by a library, and scores from the Kaleidoscope 2020 Call for Scores, an open access collaboration with the UCLA Music Library.
- International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP)Started in 2006, IMSLP, also known as the Petrucci Music Library, is a virtual library of public domain musical scores. Currently, IMSLP contains 130,282 works, 426,309 scores, 49,415 recordings, representing 16,134 composers and 467 performers.
- NMA Online Neue Mozart-Ausgabe: Digitized VersionThis website houses a digitized version of the musical texts and critical commentaries of the entire Neue Mozart-Ausgabe, edited by the Internationale Stiftung Mozart, and published by Bärenreiter-Verlag.
- VARIATIONS Prototype: Online Musical ScoresSelections leading to experimental prototypes of the ways in which musical scores and recording liner notes might be used in conjunction with sound recordings available online.
- nKodaThis platform offers access to tens of thousands of scores from over 100 publishers, including the likes of Boosey & Hawkes, Bärenreiter, Breitkopf & Härtel and Ricordi.
