MSE498: Design and Research Project

Find and Evaluating the best research sources

This guide supports the library workshop for MSE498

It has tips on:

  1. Build strong search strategies and tracking what works
  2. Find the best resources:
    • Background information (e.g., books, handbooks)
    • Scholarly Articles
      • Databases (Scopus, Compendex, Web of Science), identifying primary and review articles, articles' citation impact, and if your article is in a peer reviewed journal
      • Set up Media Alerts
    • Standards and codes from different professional associations
  3. Evaluating the credibility of the research you find  (RADAR test)
  4. How to cite using IEEE and Using Refworks or Other Citation managers

Also be sure to take a look at our Metallurgy & Materials Science research guide
