Select articles from high quality reputable news sources.     

  • Choose articles from well known & respected news sources such as "The New York Times", "The Globe & Mail", "Toronto Star" etc.
  • Avoid news sources with significant political bias.
  • Evaluate all sources carefully.   If you're not sure if a source is appropriate, ask.

Example search:   I want to find newspaper articles on climate policy in Canada published in the last 12 months

search canada and "climate policy". limit to last 12 months

 

Search Tips

  • Keyword:   Choose the main ideas from your topic e.g. canada, climate policy
  • Phrase Searching " ":   Type phrases in quotation marks e.g.  "climate policy"
  • AND:   Use AND to focus your search e.g. canada and "climate policy"
  • OR:   Use OR to expand your search. e.g. "climate policy" or "environmental policy"
  • Limiters:  Use limiters (below search, left side of your results) to focus your search 
    • Publication Date:   Limit to articles published in the last year. 
    • Document Type:    Note you can exclude 'Commentary' and 'Editorial' to focus more on fact-based articles, and reduce the number of opinion pieces you find.   

Tip:   Too many results?    Use limiters (left side of your results) to focus your search.   You can also select the "add a row" button and add another term to your search e.g. "carbon tax", "united states" etc.
