COPB10: Advancing Your Career Exploration

Summer 2020

Why Research?

What do you know about our company?

Interviewers will ask you technical and behavioural questions. They may also ask you what you know about the company. Research the basics of a company before you go out for an interview with them.

Why they ask this:

  • Do you care enough to the deep research?
  • Are you a good researcher?

Consider the following:

  • Management
  • Recent events (mergers, IPOs, expansions)
  • Financials
  • Operations
  • Competition
  • Trends

Ask yourself smart questions:

  • What are the main challenges this company is facing?
  • What is their mission? Their vision? Their goals?
  • What is the news saying about this company?
  • Have there been recent layoffs?
  • Who are the biggest competitors?
  • Are they #1 in anything?
  • Am I connected to anyone who works/has worked here?
  • Who will be interviewing me?
  • What are they proud of?
  • Who are the major players?
  • Do I know anyone working in this industry?
  • What is the industry's culture?
  • Are there any major changes in regulation that impact this industry?

Taking time to prepare for your interview shows dedication and care.
