Evaluating Sources

Sources indexed on Google Scholar include:

  • journal articles (peer-reviewed and not peer-reviewed)
  • books
  • book chapters
  • legal cases
  • legislation
  • patents
  • pre-prints
  • grey literature
  • documents from university repositories

                            Google Scholar includes books and book chapters as well as articles.  The 'Get Full Text' links won't work for these or for journal articles that are only available in print (not online).  To find books, search our catalogue using the title. (See the Books tab of this guide for instructions.)

                            Google Scholar indexes articles that are peer-reviewed and not peer-reviewed.  If you're not sure if a journal is peer-reviewed, use Ulrich's Periodical.  For instructions on using Ulrich's, check out the video below.
