GOVERNMENT & GREY LITERATURE

Use these databases to find reports, briefings, white or issue papers, case studies, newsletter articles and other content from government and policy organizations. This kind of literature is often called 'grey literature'.

This material is NOT usually peer-reviewed but can sometimes be. It is usually considered scholarly and may be written by academics who have published on the same topic in the journal literature.

An open source repository of publications issued by foundation and other social sector organizations. Searchable by keyword or browsable by topic (called 'Collections').
Scholar Portal Books
This platform includes documents and reports from Canadian public policy institutes, government agencies, advocacy groups, think-tanks, university research centres and other public interest groups - as well as scholarly books. Use the pull-down menu to select 'Canadian Think Tanks Collection' or 'Canadian Public Documents Collection' and then search by keyword using the 'Title' or 'Keyword' field.

Focused largely on international politics, CIAO offers broad access to working papers, briefings, reports, and other literature from government research organizations, think-tanks, university research centres and other organizations.
