Format of Research Paper (30% of final grade) :
10 - 12 pages, double-spaced, New Times Roman, 12 point font, in linguistics format (see texbook for example formatting).
Possible topics include: historical study, creole genesis, sociolinguistics, lexicology, phonology, syntax, morphology, language acquisition, the politics of education.
Possible perspectives: diachronic (historical), synchronic (descriptive), focus on one language, creoles in general, or groups of creoles, comparative study.
A minimum of 6 resources, from reputable sources that provide the author’s name, affiliation, publisher.
Evaluation of project :
75% content – research, observations, analysis, conclusions (hypothesis)
25% structure and presentation, language, grammar
Students in FREC47H must write the paper in French in order to count the course towards a French program.
