Introduction to Screencasting

This guide offers an introduction to screencasting, the tools to use, and some best practices to get you started.

Screencast-O-Matic in 7 Steps

1. Go to Screencast-O-Matic.

2. Sign in at the top right corner.
3. Click on Start Recording  Image of Start Recording icon
Note: you can either download the installer, or have it launch separately.

4. Select your recording preferences within the dotted frame.

  • Select what you want to record from screen, webcam, or both.
  • Adjust the size of the frame manually by clicking and dragging the corners of the frame, or selecting a capture size from the Size drop-down menu.
  • Use the Narration section to test your microphone or recorder input.
  • Click on Preferences… to set further preferences

5. Keep an eye on the length of your recording in the time bar - recordings can be a maximum of 15 minutes:

6. Click the pause button to stop the screencast. From here, you can continue to record (by clicking on Rec) or click on Done for sharing options.

7. Select how you would like to share your screencast.
