The Inforum is pleased to announce that Daisy Dowdall has joined our team as a part-time User Services Librarian. She will be with us until the end of September 30, 2019.
Many of you will have known Daisy as one of the iSchool's enthusiastic and engaging MI students and/or from her position as the Robart's Student and Faculty Engagement TALINT Intern. Through her TALint position she contributed to many projects, including the Undergraduate Research Prize, the development of e-learning modules, and the establishment of the Robarts Reflection Room.
As the User Services Librarian she will be working with the Inforum team on communications regarding Inforum services, resources, and facilities through print and digital media, delivering front-line services, and assisting with iSkills coordination.

Christine Servino has recently been appointed as a Finance Associate in the Finance and Administration department. Christine graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors of Business Administration with a specialization in management and accounting. She has work experience in a variety of industries such as mutual fund consulting and tax preparation, as well as previously working at the Department of Physics. She most recently worked for Goodmans LLP as a financial accountant. Christine is in the final stages of completing her Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA). Please welcome her as the newest member of the Finance and Administration team.
Roman Tashlitskyy started October 1, as Metadata Creation Specialist in the Metadata Services Department. Roman is a PhD student at the University of Toronto in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature. Since 2015, he has worked in Metadata Services as a GSLA, supporting the cataloguing of Slavic resources and collections. We are pleased to welcome Roman to his new role at the University of Toronto Libraries.
We are pleased to announce that Matt Gertler will be joining the Map and Data Library on October 1, 2018 in a one year appointment in the position of Data and Statistics Librarian. Matt comes to us from Ryerson University where he has been the Data Librarian since June 2017. Prior to Ryerson, Matt was also the Data Librarian at UTSC from 2015 until 2017 and was also a GSLA in the Map and Data Library and OISE in 2014. Matt has an MI from U of T and a BA and Bed from Laurentian University. Please join us in welcoming Matt.
Tim Perry will be joining the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library on October 1 as the Medieval Manuscripts and Early Books Librarian. In addition, he will assume the responsibility of doing selection for Classics for the central library system.
Tim is a graduate of the Master of Information program at the University of Toronto. He also holds an MA in Classics from the University of Canterbury, and a PhD in Classics from the University of Toronto. Tim is very familiar with UTL. As a student, he worked in the Kelly and Massey Libraries, and for the last three years was the special collections librarian at the University of Missouri.
Glyneva Bradley-Ridout will be joining us as Liaison & Education Librarian at the Gerstein Science Information Centre. Glyneva will be taking up this new position on December 1, 2018. She will liaise with the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Department of Nutritional Sciences and will be a selector in the sciences.
Glyneva is currently working at St. Michael's Hospital here in Toronto and is responsible for the collections, reference, and teaching in areas including but not limited to family medicine, oncology, and gastroenterology. Prior to her work at St. Mike's, Glyneva worked as a GSLA at Gerstein and the Engineering and Computer Sciences Library and as Library Curator at Hart House.
I am very pleased to announce Yuliya Markova will be joining the Finance & Administration team on Monday, August 27th in the Business Procurement Officer position.
In this role, Yuliya will help in conducting various library procurements as well assisting in other duties such as issuing competitive bid documents, business process reviews, and financial analysis under the Business Manager portfolio. She holds extensive experience in both private and public sector procurement and administration.

Montserrat Aguanno joined the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) HR team in the position of Human Resources/Payroll Officer, effective July 20, 2018. Montserrat will be replacing Rebecca Carmichael who will be going on Maternity/Parental Leave.
Montserrat joins us with Payroll experience from Seneca College and The Hospital for Sick Children. She has a Diploma in Accounting and Payroll from Seneca College and is in the process of completing a certificate in Human Resources Management.

The Petro Jacyk Central & East European Resource Centre is pleased to announce that Natalia Barykina joined our staff as a part-time Reference Specialist on 4 July 2018.
A native of Belarus (fluent in Russian, Belarusian and German), Natalia is currently completing the degree of Master of Information at the University of Toronto with concentrations in archives and records management and library and information science. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography (University of Toronto, 2015), and an M.A. in Communication and Culture (York and Ryerson Universities, 2007). Her research interests include transnationalism, and modernist urban planning in Germany, Austria, and the Soviet Union during the 1930s.
Natalia worked as an SLA at University College Library, completed a practicum at the PJRC (2017), and worked as a GSLA in the Centre, prior to her current appointment. She also gained valuable archival experience volunteering at the Archives of the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts
Joining the team at Victoria University Library is Bailey Chui, Archivist, with responsibilities for library manuscript collections. Bailey formerly served as an archivist/records analyst with the City of Vaughan.
Jessica Todd, working as a Records Manager/Archivist with responsibility for VIC's university records, comes to us from Ontario's Workplace Safey and Insurance Board (WSIB) and the law firm Goodmans LLP.
Keara Farragher will join the Victoria University Library staff on August 8, as the Evening and Weekend Services Library Technician. Keara comes to us from McMaster University where she has worked at both the Mills Memorial Library and the Thode Engineering & Science Library.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Harjinder Rana as the User Services and Accessibility Librarian in the Access and Information Services Department. Harjinder will be taking up this new position on October 1, 2018.
Harjinder is currently working at Lakehead University’s Chancellor Paterson Library and is responsible for the library’s circulation, resource sharing, and accessibility services. As well, he coordinates the University’s student card production service and chairs the Library’s marketing and communications team. Harjinder has also worked at the University of Windsor’s Leddy Library as a Reference and Collections Librarian.

Catherine Fournier-Boulianne has been appointed as the new IMI Liaison Librarian at the University of Toronto Mississauga Library.
Catherine comes to us from the University of Ottawa, where she worked as the Management Librarian, providing liaison and teaching support to faculty, staff and students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in a broad range of programs at the Telfer School of Management.
She holds a Master of Information from the University of Toronto and received both her Master of Arts and Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences from the University of Ottawa. While a student at the University of Toronto, she worked in a number of libraries within the UTL system.
Catherine’s first day will be August 1, 2018.
On June 6, Jimmy Vuong will join the Advancement team as Advancement Officer in a term appointment. Formerly, Jimmy served in the Division of University Advancement at the University of Toronto in various capacities in the office of Alumni Relations. In his role at UTL, he will be responsible for key initiatives in our annual fundraising programs, donor stewardship and communications. Jimmy will be situated in Library Administration, Room 2005, Robarts Library. Lanie Treen continues in her secondment to the stewardship office in the Faculty of Arts & Science.
Sarah Shujah joined the UTSC Library on Friday, June 1. Sarah was one of two successful candidates for the Liaison Librarian, Sciences position that we posted. We were very fortunate to be able to hire two librarians from one posting, as part of the University’s response to the calls to action in Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report.
Sarah was appointed to the position Liaison Librarian, Science, with a role in entrepreneurship. She comes to UTSC from Centennial College (Morningside campus) where she served in the role of Science Librarian. Sarah is active involved with scholarly communication initiatives, an advocate of Open Access, a lead on Open Educational Resources, and a veteran organizer of hackfests. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto with a double major in Forest Conservation and Environment and Resource Management. She holds a Master of Information, also from U of T. Sarah will be working with DPES and with the entrepreneurship portfolio.
Sonia Pathare has joined the UTL Advancement team to assist with the Donor Relations and Communications portfolio while we go through the process of securing an interim staff member to cover this role during Lanie Treen's secondment.

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Yayo Umetsubo as our new Scholarly Communications & Liaison Librarian at the University of Toronto Mississauga Library.
Yayo previously worked at Cape Breton University where she was responsible for scholarly communications activities such as copyright and open access. She also served as the liaison librarian for the School of Arts and Social Sciences and Unama'ki College (Mi'kmaq First Nations). Yayo was in charge of the CBU Library website.
Yayo has also worked at the University of Lethbridge as a liaison librarian for the Faculty of Education and at the University of Windsor where she liaised with the International Students program. Her English Conversation Group (ECG) program at Windsor continues to be a successful part of the Library's information literacy program. Additionally, Yayo has worked as a translator for several Japanese art non-profits, translating publications, workshops, reports, websites, etc.
Yayo has a Master of Library & Information Science from Western University and a Master of Arts and HBA in Art History from the University of Toronto.

We are pleased to announce that starting today, January 3, 2018, May Chan has joined the University of Toronto Libraries to replace Alastair Boyd, who is now on phased retirement, as Head of Metadata Services. May comes to Toronto from Vancouver where she was, first, a Cataloguing Librarian for Vancouver Public Library and, most recently, the Cataloguing Manager for Burnaby Public Library (BPL). At BPL May lead an organization-wide inquiry on staff development and learning culture, managed that library’s planned participation in NACO and SCO programs, and oversaw the transition to RDA. A leader in local and provincial cataloguing, May brings to UTL experience and strength in staff training and development and has been an active participant in Vancouver and BC professional communities including serving on the Continuing Education Coordinator for the Cataloguing and Technical Services Interest Group of BCCATS, and on the Code4Lib BC Planning Committee. She received her MLIS degree at the University of British Columbia in 2000. We are thrilled that she agreed to move across the country to become a member of our team. Mikaela Gray will be joining the Gerstein team on Monday October 2 as the new Liaison & Education Librarian in the Education and Information Services unit.
In this role Mikaela will serve as liaison to the Faculty of Nursing and will hold some collection development responsibilities.
Mikaela has a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University. She has worked as a GSLA at both Gerstein and the Engineering and Computer Science Library since 2016. Her most recent role was that of Research Analyst at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. She has also gained health science experience through her work at the Michener Institute and at Brampton Civic Hospital.
Paraskevi (Pari) Tsoukalas joined the University of Toronto Libraries HR team in the position of Human Resources Administrator, effective September 11, 2017. Pari replaces Sandra Charles who is on secondment as a Human Resources Advisor to the University Operations HR Office.
Pari joins us from Toronto Community Employment Services where she worked as an Employment Trainer. She also held the position Human Resources Administrator/Customer Service Manager at FreshCo. Pari has experience in recruitment, training, orientation, payroll and benefits, and using SAP and Kronos systems.
She holds a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Physical and Health Education from the University of Toronto, and is the process of completing a certificate in Human Resources Management.

In addition to her role on the 4th and 5th floors, she also served as the MISC Social Committee Co-Chair, the Secretary of the iSchool Chapter of the Association of Canadian Archivists, a Managing Editor of the iJournal, and a member of the iSquare Research Team.
As the Public Services Librarian she will be assisting the Inforum team with communications about the Inforum services, resources, and facilities through print and digital media, delivering front-line services, and serving as liaison with Robarts Reference staff. On August 8, Cvijeta Sonoc was appointed to the position of High Density Access and Retrieval Associate at UTL at Downsview. Most recently, Cvijeta was a student staff member at Downsview, but has a previous career working with children with autism. Welcome Cvijeta!
We are pleased to announce that Tracy Zahradnik has accepted the position of Engineering Librarian in the Engineering & Computer Science Library starting on September 1, 2017.
Tracy is returning to librarianship and to Canada from working in the field of Education in Tokyo at Aoyama Gakuin University and Waseda University where she was teaching accredited university English proficiency courses. Tracy graduated with her Master of Information from the iSchool at U of T in 2013 and worked from 2013-2015 at the ECSL and Dentistry libraries. While still a student, she also worked as a GSLA in the ECSL and an SLA at Dentistry. Prior to librarianship, Tracy completed a BSc in Zoology with a minor in Forest Science at Guelph, an MSc in Zoology at Guelph and a PhD in Biology from Simon Fraser. Her thesis examined the exploitation of electromagnetic foraging cues in conphagous insects.

On behalf of the University of Toronto Libraries Advancement team, I am delighted to announce that Kiah Bransch has accepted the position of Advancement Assistant at the Libraries, effective July 31.
A U of T alumna with a degree in Biotechnology, Kiah most recently worked at Drink Local Drink Tap, a not-for-profit dedicated to safe drinking water in the Great Lakes region and in Uganda. There, her responsibilities included fundraising, research and communications. While pursuing her studies at U of T, she was a research assistant in the Acquired Brain Injury lab and in the Semaphore Research Cluster. As well, she worked in the Division of University Advancement’s Stewardship and Alumni Relations office. Recently, Kiah completed the requirements to become a Certified Associate in Applied Project Management.

They have worked in various academic archives, managing numerous physical and digital projects and providing reference assistance to researchers. Tanis has worked as a Project Archivist at McGill and Columbia universities; a Digital Archivist at Moshe Safdie Architects in the US; and as Cataloguer and Archivist, respectively, at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal.

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick Hop Hing to the position of Chief Administrative Officer for the University of Toronto Libraries, effective August 15, 2017.
Patrick brings over 30 years of experience as a Chartered Professional Accountant with extensive Canadian and International operational and financial management experience in increasingly responsible executive leadership roles. Most recently, he was Director, Corporate Services and Treasurer of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario, where he served for over 15 years. Prior to this he was Director, Finance & Administration and Chief Financial Officer with the Toronto Board of Trade; Director, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer with the College of Nurses of Ontario; and held various senior positions with PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
As well, Patrick has contributed his considerable experience, time and energy in service to the community as a board member or chair of numerous organizations and committees, including the Trillium Health Centre, the Mississauga Hospital, the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network, the International Association of Milk Control Agencies and the Halton Peel Dufferin Training Board.
In his role as Chief Administrative Officer for UTL, Patrick will provide leadership and strategic direction for the management of the Libraries' financial and administrative operations in pursuit of the central library system’s strategic goals. As a member of the Executive Leadership Council he will provide advice to the Chief Librarian and to UTL management on a wide variety of matters of strategic importance to the University of Toronto Libraries. As well, he will represent the Libraries in external and internal partnerships including with central University leadership and other University divisions in matters associated with the portfolio.

As a student, she worked in the UofT Libraries, Scholars Portal, OISE Library, and the Accessible Content E-Portal Project. Following her graduation, she worked as the Alternate Formats Coordinator at OCAD University Library where she managed the provision of alternate formats for students with print disabilities. Her most recent experience is at Ontario College Library Services, where she worked on finalizing the consortia eBook Project and additional projects for the askON service. She comes with experience providing library services to the UofT community, a background in Women and Gender Studies and Caribbean Studies, as well as experience working with accessibility services and providing alternate formats of texts.

Please join me in welcoming Natasa Krsmanovic as the Kelly Library’s new Manager of Conservation, beginning September 1, 2017.
Natasa Krsmanovic earned her Master’s in Art Conservation degree from Queen’s University, where she specialized in works of art on paper and archival material. After graduation, she continued developing her skills and knowledge through work with some of Canada’s largest rare book collections, including the Library of Parliament and Library and Archives Canada. Natasa is active within the conservation academic community in Canada and internationally, including memberships in the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) Book and Paper Group, Canadian Association for Conservation (CAC-ACCR), and the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG). With colleagues, she recently proposed the creation of an advocacy committee within CAC-ACCR, a group that she currently co-chairs. In addition to her passion for outreach, information sharing, and art conservation/preservation advocacy, Natasa is interested in artist materials and co-presented on the use of watercolour pencils in fine art on paper at the 2016 AIC-CAC Conference in Montreal. This paper has been published in the most recent issue of The Book and Paper Group Annual.

Starting on Monday, June 19, Christopher Hogendoorn will join the Graham Library on a one-year contract as the Special Collections and Digital Initiatives Librarian. Christopher will facilitate access to the Graham Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections, provide research assistance to Trinity’s incoming first year students through the Personal Librarian program, and undertake digital exhibits of rare and special materials at the Graham Library, among other projects. Most recently, Christopher worked at North Carolina State University Libraries (Raleigh) as a Digital Projects Librarian in the Special Collections department, where he coordinated a number of digitization projects and liaised with library stakeholders on digital initiatives.

I am very pleased to announce that Nailisa Tanner joined the OISE Library June 1st, 2017 as the Collections and Outreach Librarian. In this role, Nailisa will help to build the OISE Library Research Collection in close consultation with OISE faculty members, students, and other library colleagues. She will continue to build and curate the Library’s Ontario Historical Education Collections; oversee a variety of projects to preserve and digitize print and audio visual materials; provide research support; and design and deliver information literacy sessions as a member of the OISE Library instruction team.
Nailisa brings with her experience with rare / historic books and special / archival collections, having worked as a Project Archivist, Special Collections and Rare Books at Simon Fraser University; as the Project Archivist, The Archives of Lesbian Oral Testimony at Simon Fraser University; and as a Library, Archive and Museum Intern at the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute. Nailisa is an experienced project manager: She has overseen digitization projects at Simon Fraser University, and as the Digitization Project Manager with Nature Newfoundland and Labrador, in collaboration with Memorial University’s Digital Archives Initiative. Nailisa also has experience providing research services and information literacy instruction, as a former Information & Instruction Librarian at Simon Fraser University, and as a Student Reference Librarian at the Eleanor London Cote Saint-Luc Public Library.
Nailisa holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Western Society & Culture from Concordia University, and a Master of Library & Information Studies from McGill University. She has completed her coursework and is currently working on her thesis in the Master of Arts in Humanities Computing (aka Digital Humanities) degree program at the University of Alberta.

We are pleased to announce Jessica Hanley has been appointed Science Liaison Librarian at University of Toronto Mississauga Library in a permanent status track role effective April 3rd, 2017. Jessica holds a BSc in Biological Sciences with a minor in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Guelph, and a Master of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. Jessica holds previous experience as a Bio-Physics Lab Technician, and Medical Informational Analyst in the Pharmaceutical industry. Following her MLIS, Jessica worked as a Research Librarian for the Ontario Ministry of Finance, and joined the University of Toronto Scarborough library in August 2016 as the Finance Librarian. In addition, she is currently serving as the SLA Toronto chapter’s First Five Years Director and volunteers her time planning events for MLIS students and new professionals.

Since 2015, Antonio has worked as a Toronto Academic Library intern (TALint) in Cataloguing and Metadata Services at Robarts Library. In this capacity, he has helped improve access to physical and electronic holdings through various record enhancement projects. Antonio holds a BA in Slavic Studies from the University of Waterloo, and a Master of Information degree from the University of Toronto. In his new role as Metadata Librarian, Antonio will support initiatives to enhance library metadata, help resolve metadata problems and conduct original cataloguing for resources of all types.

Please join me in welcoming James Roussain as the Kelly Library’s new Archivist—Outreach and Instruction, beginning January 9, 2017.
Following his graduation with an MI from the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto, James worked as an Archives and Corporate Records Archivist for the Scotiabank Records and Information Management Office. There he was a primary contact for ensuring business units met their archival responsibilities, to which end he developed education initiatives and conducted training sessions in addition to his development and processing responsibilities.
Prior to his work in the banking sector, James worked with academic archives at both the University of Toronto Archives and the Trinity College Archives. This engendered in him an interest in personal manuscripts and he looks forward to furthering this interest while working with the Kelly’s collections.
In addition to a long history of volunteer work with the Association of Canadian Archivists, spanning his student days to the present, James is currently serving as the president of the Toronto Area Archivists’ Group (aao-archivists.ca/taag).

Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Adriana Balen to the newly created position of Manager, Capital Projects and Planning. Adriana will start on February 1, 2017 and will be reporting to me directly. Julian Mitchell and Ikee Gibson will report to Adriana to form a new team for capital projects and facilities management at UTL.
Adriana brings a wealth of professional skills to this position with over 15 years of experience in architectural design and construction, and capital project management. She has worked on more than 150 projects from concept to completion during her career, from new building designs to architectural renovations, restorations and retrofits. She also has considerable University of Toronto experience, having worked for the past four and half years as Facilities Planner for the Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Facilities Management and Space Planning. Prior to working at the university, Adriana was employed by the Ontario Heritage Trust and independent architecture firms. Adriana is fluent in the two Canadian official languages. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree (B.Arch) from the University of Los Andes, Columbia, and Certificat d’Etudes Diplôme d'Etudes Universitaires Générales (DEUG), from Ecole d'Architecture de Nantes, France. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a candidate for Licensure under the Canadian Architectural Certification Board’s Broad Experienced Foreign Architect program (BEFA).

Anna has extensive HR/Payroll experience and has been working at U of T as a Payroll Officer in the Facilities & Services Department. She has over nine years of payroll experience and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Bilingual Business Economics.

I am pleased to announce that Kate Johnson will be the new Innis Librarian, commencing February 1st.
Kate comes to us with extensive experience within the University of Toronto Libraries system, including positions at the Engineering and Computer Science Library, the D.G. Ivey Library at New College, and the UTSC Library. She received her Master of Information Studies at the University of Toronto in 2010 and received a Cressy Student Leadership Award during her time as a graduate student.
We are pleased to announce that Kelly Schultz has accepted the position of Data Visualization Librarian in the Map and Data Library starting on April 1, 2017.
Kelly brings to the MDL impressive experience as Science Librarian at the Radcliffe Science Library, University of Oxford from 2013 to 2015, and as GIS, Map and Data Librarian at the University of British Columbia from 2015. Before graduation from the iSchool at U of T in 2012, Kelly worked as a GSLA and SLA here at UTL in the MDL, Engineering and Computer Science Library, and Reference and Research Services. Kelly also holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from U of T. She has also worked as a programmer at both IBM Canada and Nortel Networks between 1999 and 2003.
Kelly also holds three patents in her name from her time at IBM.

Jessica McEneaney has joined the University of Toronto Libraries on November 7, 2016 as a Technology Assistant in the Information Commons. She will be joining the IT team managing the student Computer Access Facilities in the Central and Federated College Libraries. She brings an enthusiasm for technology and a history of excellent user support from her previous position at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Dentistry.
Before coming to U of T, Jessica graduated with a Bachelor of Industrial Design from the Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning and has experience in graphic design, packaging and 3D design.

I am pleased to announce that Susan Gropp will be joining the University of Toronto Libraries as the new Manager of Security, Fire, Health and Safety on December 1st. Susan has worked at the University of Toronto in different capacities since 2004 and brings a wealth of knowledge and relevant experience to the role. Most recently, Susan completed two secondments to UTSC in the Campus Safety and Security portfolio as Manager of Environmental Health and Safety, where she effectively managed the EHS unit, investigating accidents/incidents, delivering training, addressing the workplace concerns of unionized staff with HR and Health & Well-being, and supervising staff and students. She is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional with nine years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety in a broad range of workplace settings. Susan has built excellent working relationships with colleagues across the U of T community in Fire Prevention, Environmental Health and Safety, Health and Well-being (WSIB Administrator and disability consultant), and Campus Safety and Security. Susan has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph, a Master’s degree from the University of Toronto and a PhD (ABD) from the University of Toronto. Eva Jurczyk will be joining the Collection Development Department as Electronic Resources Librarian on December 1, 2016.
Eva holds a BA in Professional Writing from York University and a Master of Information from the iSchool. She has experience in consortia member services at Canadian Research Knowledge Network, the bibliometrics program at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and most recently, student services at the Career Centre, University of Toronto. In her new role as Electronic Resources Librarian, Eva will be involved in the acquisition, licensing, access management and analysis of the Libraries' e-resource collections.

Christina Stewart joined the Media Commons on November 14 as the second full-time ongoing Assistant Media Archivist.
She comes to U of T with considerable knowledge and experience in the field of audio-visual archives. She is a graduate of both the Selznick School of Film Preservation at George Eastman House in Rochester, as well as the University of Victoria School of Film Preservation. She has worked as media archivist at the Canadian National Exhibition, as curatorial assistant at the Louis B. Mayer Conservation Centre nitrate vaults at George Eastman House, and most recently as a manager of the Niagara Custom Lab.
In addition she has served on the Board of Directors for the Toronto Film Society and the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre. As well Christina is currently a sessional instructor in Ryerson University’s Film and Photographic Preservation MA Program.

Jan Guise has accepted the position as the next Head of the Music Library, and will join us July 1, 2017. In the interim, James has graciously agreed to continue in his role until Jan arrives. We would like to say a big thank you to James for assuming leadership of the library in this time of transition.
Jan joins us with considerable experience and knowledge. As you may know, she is currently the Head of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Music Library at the University of Manitoba. Throughout her career, she has shown great commitment to professional development and has steadily assumed greater leadership responsibility. In her current role, she has overseen the move of the library to a new space, which was an eight-year endeavour requiring tremendous planning and vision to successfully bring it to fruition. Jan is highly collaborative and has strong ties in her current Faculty of Music. Jan takes a “people-first attitude”; she works collegially with staff to offer user focused services and collections. Jan has a wonderful reputation in the Canadian academic Music Library environment; she has held a number of key leadership roles with the Canadian Association of Music Libraries, including several years as President. Additionally, she has a strong history of engagement with the International Association of Music Libraries.
Jan holds her Bachelor of Music (Queen’s), Master of Music (Theory) (University of Western) as well as her MLIS (Alberta) and a Graduate Certificate in Library Sector Leadership (University of Victoria). She is engaged academically and has a recent publication: Succession Planning in Canadian Academic Libraries.

Jennifer Browning will be joining the University of Toronto Libraries as Metadata Librarian for Electronic Resources, starting on October 1, 2016.
Jennifer brings a strong background in metadata management to her new role, from her former positions as Authority Control Specialist and Catalogue Maintenance Specialist at the Carleton University Library. Jennifer holds a BA in English Literature from Carleton University, and a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario. In her new role as Metadata Librarian for Electronic Resources, Jennifer will take a leadership role in providing access to electronic resources, resolving metadata problems and providing support for the bibliographic control and metadata related to resources of all types.
Jennifer will report to the Metadata Technologies Manager and her office will be located on the 6th floor of Robarts Library.
Vincci Lui has accepted the position of Faculty Liaison & Instruction Librarian/Communications & Web Librarian beginning on Sept 1st , 2016. In this role Vincci will continue her exemplary work in communications, social media and web design, as well as liaison to Public Health, and other areas as required (currently Bioethics and Kinesiology & Physical Education). Vincci has been a valued member of the team at Gerstein since July 2013, and holds a Master of Information Studies and an Honours B.A. from the University of Toronto. Prior to working at Gerstein, Vincci was a liaison librarian for Agriculture and Food Science at McGill University.

Kaitlin Fuller will be joining Gerstein as Education & Liaison Librarian on Oct 3rd, 2016. Kaitlin will have a primary focus as liaison to Undergraduate Medical Education (UME). Kaitlin has a Master of Library and Information Studies from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia. Kaitlin joins us from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Sudbury, where she was the liaison librarian for Foundations of Medicine and UME.
Jelena Stankovic has joined the A.D. Allen Chemistry Library on contract until the end of the fall term. She graduated from the iSchool Library & Information Science program last April, during which time she worked as an SLA at University College Library and an SLA and GSLA at the Engineering and Computer Science Library. Before coming to U of T, she studied English Literature, Canadian Studies and Biology at McGill University.
Desmond Wong will be joining the University of Toronto Libraries as Outreach Librarian August 1, 2016.
Grant Hurley will be starting as the new Digital Preservation Librarian for Scholars Portal as of of August 1, 2016.
Grant holds a dual masters degree in Archival Studies and Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia as well as a Master of Arts degree from UBC in English. Grant is coming to Scholars Portal from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, where he is currently employed as Records Analyst and Archivist and involved in digital preservation of the College’s files. Grant is on the board of the Archives Association of Ontario as a Director without Portfolio and serves as editor for the association newsletter, "Off the Record". In 2015, Grant won the Gordon Dodds Prize of the Association of Canadian Archivists for a paper on community archives and cloud computing subsequently published in Archivaria, the association’s professional journal.
Grant will be involved in a wide range of projects in Scholars Portal and OCUL related to digital preservation, including refreshing our TDR documentation, exploring new tools to support our preservation services, and extending those services to content formats such as eBooks and research data. Grant will also be available as a resource for OCUL libraries developing local digital preservation programs.
Emily Sommers has joined the University of Toronto Archives and Records Management Services as Digital Records Archivist. In this position, Emily will focus on preserving and making available digitized and born-digital archival records received from university administrative offices and private donors.
Kara Handren will be joining Scholars Portal as our new Metadata Librarian starting on May 2. Kara has a Master’s Degree in History from the University of Toronto (specializing in Early Modern French Studies) along with a Master’s Degree from the iSchool. She comes to us originally from the University of Prince Edward Island, where she completed a double major in History and Religious Studies. Kara has been the recipient of a number of academic awards, including the 2011 SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Graduate Master's Scholarship. Her most recent employment experience has been at Environment Canada, where she worked as a Data Management Officer, updating their catalogue of scientific datasets. Kara is also fluently bilingual in English and French.

Bella Ban joined the Information Technology Services Department as the new Digital Scholarship Application Programmer Analyst on April 25, 2016. Bella gained experience in web application development, data manipulation and visualization from a previous position as a software engineer / data analyst and a diverse educational background in financial economics, applied mathematics and data science. Nancy Fong has accepted the position of Digital Initiatives Librarian (contract), replacing Kelli Babcock during her leave over the coming year. Nancy will be starting on Monday April 11 – please drop by Kelli and Nancy to introduce yourselves and welcome her next week!
Nancy joins us from a position at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, where she was the project manager during the implementation of a new ILS. She also has experience in website wire-framing and usability from previous positions at the University of Toronto and the Ryerson University Library and Archives. Finally, you may well recognize Nancy from her previous stints as an SLA and a GSLA at Scholars Portal and elsewhere in UTL. Welcome back, Nancy!

Hana Kim was appointed Director of the East Asian Library, effective April 1, 2016. Hana rejoins us at UTL from UBC, where she has been Head of their Asian Library – a library which houses collections in 11 major Asian languages. During her time there, she led some ambitious projects, including a joint CLIR grant initiative, entitled "Hidden Collections Cataloguing of Rare Chinese Materials", with the University of Washington and the Puban Collection Digitization project with Sun Yat-Sen Library of Guangdong Province. She has also worked closely with staff there, supporting them and mentoring them. Hana has worked with faculty in the Department of Asian Studies and the wider community to develop events and programs including a Lunar New Year Celebration event and hosting the UBC Library Centenary Anniversary event. She has also focused on fundraising initiatives, including the development of a “learning commons” renovation for the Asian Library. We welcome her back to UTL.

Benjamin Walsh has joined the Engineering and Computer Science Library as Liaison and Instruction Librarian, on contract until February 28, 2017.
Ben's duties include faculty liaison for Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Engineering Science. He also oversees circulation services, supervises SLAs, and contributes to ongoing special projects.
While new to this role, Ben previously served at ECSL as a Graduate Student Library Assistant (2013-2015) authoring a departmental research data management (RDM) report, collaborating with student members of Engineers Without Borders, and supporting FASE research through reference and research support.
As a graduate student at U of T, Ben's research focused on the technology and new media practices of homeless queer and trans youth, and in his professional life before librarianship, Ben was co-owner of Glad Day Bookshop.

Mr. Kosuke Tanabe has joined University of Toronto Libraries as a visiting colleague. Kosuke is systems librarian at the prestigious National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba-city, Japan and has expertise in areas including e-resource management.
The two-month visit will provide opportunities for exchanging and sharing knowledge and experience in librarianship through meetings with colleagues, job-shadowing, and a presentation. During his two months, Kosuke’s home base will be the Engineering and Computer Science Library. We hope that over the next few weeks many of you may have an opportunity to meet Kosuke.

Sarah Guay has joined the UTSC Library as Liaison Librarian for Heath Studies, Biology, and Psychology & Neuroscience for a 9 month contract, ending August 2016. Sarah graduated with a Master of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Information and Media Studies, from Western University, London, Ontario. She has experience in teaching and research at Queens’s University, and digital services at Canadian Research Knowledge Network in Ottawa. Sarah will be covering Angela Hamilton’s liaison responsibilities during her upcoming maternity leave.

Lanie Treen has been appointed to the role of Advancement Officer and will join the University of Toronto Libraries Advancement group on February 1, 2016. Lanie brings her expertise in university advancement and keen interest in the area of donor relations to the University of Toronto Libraries. She has worked in U of T Advancement since 2012, with key roles on the Development teams at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, with responsibilities ranging from prospect management to high level stewardship. Lanie will contribute her donor-focused approach to UTL and our engaged community of donors, staff, volunteers, and students. Prior to joining the University, Lanie spent ten years working as an arts administrator at major cultural institutions such as the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Canadian Stage Company. She holds a specialized honours degree in English Literature from York University.

Darlene Chow commenced in the role of Manager of Human Resources at UTL, effective January 1, 2016. As an experienced HR professional, Darlene has the extensive knowledge and background to provide a full range of human resources services, support, and guidance to UTL staff, students, and stakeholders. As an employee of U of T since 1996, Darlene is also able to bring valuable in-depth knowledge of the university’s human resources policies, procedures and systems to the role. She has worked in a variety of HR positions, both in the private sector and at U of T, progressing to her most recent position as a senior member of the HR team at U of T’s Faculty of Medicine with responsibility for a major division of the faculty. She managed human resources services and provided support and consultation to clients in all areas, reporting directly to the Faculty’s HR Director. Prior to joining the Faculty of Medicine, she held the position of Manager, HRIS, in which she oversaw the day-to-day operation of the university’s HRIS system, including TALEO and TimeLink. In addition to managing staff, she also contributed strategically to the division’s planning activities and projects. Darlene also played an important role with Central HR as HRIS Project Manager from 2006 to 2010, with the development and implementation of the original HRIS system for the university.
Darlene has a Bachelor of Business degree from Ryerson University and also holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Western Ontario. She is a member of the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario and holds the designation of Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL).

Laure Perrier will be joining UTL as Research Data Management Librarian in January 2016. Laure worked with the U of T Faculty of Medicine as an information specialist from 2001 to 2014, where she partnered closely with physicians, researchers, and trainees on a broad range of projects to support their research and scholarly needs. Laure’s previous experiences include work with the Toronto Public Library and as a dietitian with Lambton Public Health. She holds a PhD from the U of T Faculty of Medicine, a master’s in library science from the University of Western Ontario, a master’s in education from University of Manitoba, and a bachelor’s degree in applied science from the University of Guelph.
In this new role, Laure will coordinate the development of UTL’s research data management services, with an emphasis on working with faculty and researchers in the health sciences. Her office will be in Gerstein.

Meaghan Valant joins UTM as the new Assessment & Liaison Librarian. For the past few years, Meaghan has been in a student role at UTM Library reference, UTM Finance Learning Centre, Robarts, Children's Book Bank, and the St. Michael's Patient and Family Learning Centre.
Meaghan gained extensive assessment experience on several team projects during her time as a graduate student at McMaster University. She analyzed and interpreted data on projects with the Hamilton Restorative Justice Evaluation Project and used quantitative assessment methods while assisting with the evaluation of the Ontario Summer Literacy Project. Meaghan also worked for six years as a law clerk at a Toronto law firm.
Meaghan has a Master of Information, Library & Information Science from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts, Sociology from McMaster University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from McMaster University.

Matthew Gertler joined the UTSC Library as a Data and Statistics Librarian on August 1, 2015, on contract. Working with the liaison librarians, Matthew provides Data and Statistics related reference and instruction for students and faculty. Previously, Matthew worked as a GSLA at the Map and Data Library and as a research analyst at the University Health Network. Matthew holds a Master of Information degree from the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Bachelor of Education from Laurentian University.

Leanne Trimble has accepted the position of Statistics and Data Librarian at the Map and Data Library, starting December 1st, 2015. Leanne has been the Data and Geospatial Librarian at Scholars Portal since 2009. During her time at Scholars Portal, Leanne was the lead on Scholars Portal's Data and Geospatial Services functional unit. Leanne was the project manager for the development of the Scholars Portal Geoportal. She has also been providing support across the province for <odesi>, the Scholars Portal Social Sciences data portal.
Before coming to Scholars Portal, Leanne was the Architecture & Environmental Design Librarian at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), where she served as liaison for faculty in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design from 2007-2009; and she was also the Toronto Botanical Garden librarian from 2005-2007. No stranger to the Map and Data Library, Leanne was the acting GIS and Map Librarian in 2013-2014, and a GSLA while attending the iSchool. Leanne holds a B.A. in Geography and an MIS from the University of Toronto.
Leanne brings a wealth of data initiatives experience to the Map and Data Library. She is active in several provincial and national data initiatives. Most recently, Leanne has been involved in the Portage project, which is attempting to build upon existing library-based Research Data Management (RDM) expertise, services, and infrastructure for increased researcher support across Canada.
Lydia Zvyagintseva has joined the UTSC Library as the Digital Scholarship Librarian – Humanities, on contract to July 1, 2016. Working in the Digital Scholarship Unit of the library, she works closely with the History and Cultural Studies Department to support digital literacy instruction and project management of various research projects. Lydia has completed an MA in Humanities Computing and an MA in French Language and Literature in addition to her MLIS, at the University of Alberta. When not troubleshooting scholarly tools, creating instructional materials, or researching digital research projects in the humanities, Lydia likes to think about where the technical and the human intersect.

Brett Williams has joined the UTM Library and will be on contract as GIS/Data Librarian until June 2016. Brett received his MLIS from McGill University in 2008. He spent 2009 to 2015 working as the Systems Librarian for the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar in Doha, Qatar. During his time at CNA-Q, Brett managed ILS upgrades, the Serials Solutions suite of services, and implemented LibGuides, LibAnswers and LibCal. Brett filled the roles of the IT Liaison librarian and the Electronic Resources librarian while at CNA-Q. Brett has advanced knowledge of library systems including link resolvers like 360 Link, discovery layers like Summon, and integrated library systems like Sierra and Virtua.
Brett has extensive experience teaching information literacy in an EFL environment, working closely with students enrolled in Engineering and IT programs. During his last year in Qatar, Brett participated in the re-write of the information literacy curriculum and started a video development project that is currently co-sponsored by CAN-Q and the University of Calgary in Qatar.
Brett has substantial experience with managing cataloging projects, including a major MARC record cleanup initiative and project that added electronic books to the library catalog. Brett has extended this knowledge into community outreach, helping the Doha Mums Library, the Doha German School and Out on the Shelf in Guelph, Ontario with their library automation projects.

Alexia Loumankis joined the Bora Laskin Law Library on September 1st and will be delivering reference and instructional services in the law library. For the last seven years, Alexia was the Reference Librarian at the Ministry of the Attorney General Law Library where she provided research services and training to 1800 counsel and 200 law students. She was recently seconded to manager of the Judges’ Library, which provides information services to all judges across Ontario. Prior to working for the government, Alexia was a communications and reference librarian at a large national law firm. Alexia has a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto, a Certificate in Publishing from Ryerson University, and an under-graduate degree in History and Economics also from the University of Toronto.

Kim Pham has joined UTSC Library as the Digital Projects & Technologies Librarian in the Digital Scholarship Unit. She is responsible for analyzing system requirements, providing technical support, and training and product management in the library’s Digital Scholarship Unit. Kim is also the Liaison Librarian for Physics and Astrophysics.

Cheryl Bain has joined the UTSC Library and will be on contract as the Liaison Librarian for Chemistry and Environmental Sciences from July 2015 to February 2016. Cheryl has a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Alberta (2008) and her MLIS (Librarianship stream) at McGill’s School of Information Studies (2015).
Before deciding to pursue a career in librarianship, she gained experience as an industrial and academic research chemist and also completed four years of graduate studies in chemistry. She has extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Ms. Yuki Suzuki, from the Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Department, Shonan Fujisawa Media Center, Keio University, Japan, is joining UTL as a visiting librarian from October 5, 2015 to February 29, 2016. During the time, Yuki will visit various departments and libraries to exchange knowledge and experience in librarianship. In particular, she will stay with Jack Leong for orientation and tour activities in the first week. Then, she will join Fabiano Rocha for two weeks, learning about material processing and the Japanese collection at UTL, followed by two months of visiting activities at Collection Department with Caitlin Tillman and Houman Behzadi. Finally, Yuki will be hosted by Lari Langford at the Access and Information Department.

Helen Tang is the new Public Service Librarian at the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library and the Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library, effective October 1st, 2015. Helen received her MLIS from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2013. She holds a BA (1995) in English, of Science and Technology and an MA (2002) in Applied Linguistics from the South China University of Technology. She had taught for more than 10 years at the college level in Guangzhou, China. Prior to joining UTL, Helen served as the Pacific and Asian Studies Subject Librarian at the University of Victoria Libraries. In this role, she provided a full range of library services, including reference, instruction, collection development, and liaison to library users. In addition to English, she speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese, which will be an asset for her to provide excellent public service to the increasingly diverse user group in both libraries.

Diane Michaud is thew new Instructional Technology Liaison Librarian with the University of Toronto Mississauga Library. Diane has worked as the E-Learning Librarian at Laurentian University for which she was involved in designing and creating an online course on research approaches and tools for undergraduates. She has experience in liaising with faculty, providing instruction, and designing and delivering online instruction. Diane has experience in use of a variety of instructional technologies and recommended pedagogical practices. Prior to Laurentian University, Diane was the Acting Accessibility Services Librarian at Ryerson University and is well-versed with AODA requirements for online learning. She has also worked as Instruction and Liaison Librarian at UTSC, and at Concordia University.
Diane has a Master of Library and Information Studies from McGill University, a Bachelor of Education and BA in French Literature from the University of British Columbia, and a Diploma in Photography and Digital Imaging from Fanshawe College.
At UTM she will be supporting faculty members, instructors, and students with any instructional technology enhancements they wish to integrate into their teaching or learning practice. She will also act as the subject liaison for Communication, Culture, Information & Technology and the Language Studies Department.
Kenneth Berry has joined UTM Library as Instructional Technology Support Specialist on secondment while Lauren Di Monte is on leave.
Kenneth has extensive experience as the Specialist, Teaching Technology Support at the Faculty of Arts and Science, and he has over 10 years of experience researching, integrating and helping users understand the effective use of instructional technology. Kenneth has advanced knowledge of web-based technologies and development including course management systems and components such as Blackboard, Moodle, Coursera and Drupal. In addition to a thorough understanding of learning theory methodologies, classroom, and web-based instructional design, he brings an evidence-based approach to support faculty members who wish to effectively integrate technology into their teaching and learning.
Kenneth is currently completing a Master of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) University of Toronto. He has a certificate in E-Learning from the School of Continuing Studies and a Post-graduate Diploma in Education. He has completed a Master of Science, Management Information Systems and a Bachelor of Science, Computer Science and Electronics from the University of the West Indies.

Lauren Williams will be starting on October 1, 2015, in a one-year contract position of Special Collections Librarian in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. Lauren is a recent graduate of the University of Toronto iSchool, where she specialized in Library and Information Science and participated in the Book History and Print Culture Collaborative Program.
For the past year, Lauren has worked as a TALint intern in the Fisher Library, where she gained valuable experience in all aspects of special collections librarianship. Lauren has previously worked with special collections at the Centre for Reformation & Renaissance Studies and at the John M. Kelly Library. She is also involved in conservation and letterpress printing activities at Massey College.
In her new position, Lauren will be an active member of the special collections team at Fisher, assisting with both early and modern manuscripts, and participating in reference, cataloguing, seminars, and exhibitions.

Navroop Gill has been appointed to the position of Instruction and Liaison Librarian at the OISE Library starting September 1st. In this role, Navroop will supervise the Circulation and Resource Sharing Departments; provide instruction, outreach, and research support for students and faculty at OISE and Social Work; and select materials for OISE’s Curriculum Resources Collection.
Navroop earned her BA in English Literature from Queen’s University, her B.Ed. in Primary / Junior Education from OISE, her M.Ed. in Curriculum Teaching and Learning and Comparative, International Development Education from OISE, and her Master of Information from the University of Toronto. She is a certified teacher with extensive teaching experience, having taught at the elementary level in Korea, at the Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, at the postsecondary level at Humber College (teaching academic writing for students new to Canada) and at the iSchool (providing workshops to graduate students). In addition to her teaching experience, Navroop brings with her supervisory and outreach experience, as well as experience providing circulation, reference, and research services at the Inforum and OISE libraries.

New College's D.G. Ivey Library welcomes a new librarian, Mona Elayyan. Mona holds a Master of Information, an Honours Bachelor of Arts (English Specialist) and a Bachelor of Applied Science and Engineering (specializing in Electrical Engineering) from the University of Toronto. In 2014, Mona worked as an Instructional Technology Support Assistant at the University of Toronto Mississauga Library, where she helped faculty, staff and students use online literacy tools and troubleshot technical problems in the Blackboard Learning Management System. Prior to that, Mona worked at Accenture as an Infrastructure Lead, managing project infrastructure and at Oscellus as a System Administrator, customizing client web spaces.
Recently Mona worked as an Online Learning Module Developer at the University of Toronto Scarborough where she researched and designed 7 workshops on textual analysis, mapping, bibliographic management and visualization tools some of which were Voyant, Fusion Tables, Zotero, and VisualEyes. She then presented these tools at the Digital Pedagogy Tri-institutional Conference this past August 2015.
Mona is interested in how various technologies can transform pedagogy and how information can be made more accessible and available using digital tools. One of her on-going projects is a Charles Dickens webspace where she has developed a design concept for a website interface that promotes scholarship and engages users with the text through collaborative and annotative tools.

Kate Johnson has been appointed to the role of Instruction and Liaison Librarian at the Dentistry and Engineering & Computer Science libraries. She will begin working on September 1st.-
Kyla Everall has accepted the position of Government Information and User Support Librarian starting September 1. Kyla will be working 50% time leading the IStaff initiative and providing reference service in all forms. She is especially excited about working on government information research questions.
Carey Toane will be joining the University of Toronto Libraries as Entrenpreneurship Librarian on September 1. Carey is currently Education Coordinator at the Ontario Library Association and has previously worked in business research and reference at Western University and York University.
Before starting her career in libraries, Carey worked as a journalist, copywriter and editor. She also has firsthand experience working in and with startups. Carey will be bringing all of these experiences to bear in her work to support the entrepreneurial community across all U of T campuses. Although she will be based at Gerstein, many members of the UTL community will likely be crossing paths with her as she works to build a network for entrepreneurial support across UTL.

Julia Jihae Chun has been appointed to the position of Korean Studies Librarian in the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library, effective August 1, 2015.

Neil Romanosky has accepted the position of Associate Chief Librarian for Science Research and Information. His first day on campus will be April 6.
In this new role, Neil will lead efforts to provide world class collections and services for the sciences and health sciences, and will be Director of the Gerstein Science Information Centre. He will also be a member of the Chief Librarian’s Executive Leadership Council, playing a key role in advancing the overall strategic goals of the Libraries.
Neil comes to the University of Toronto Libraries from New York University Health Sciences Library where he is Assistant Director, Operations & Department Administrator. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (summa cum laude) in English from Rider University, a Master of Communication and Information Studies from Rutgers University, and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science (with distinction) from Pratt Institute. Additionally, Neil has completed a Certificate in Human Capital Management, with a focus on organizational development, change management and employment law, from the New York University School of Professional Studies. He is presently an ARL Leadership Fellow in the 2013 – 2015 cohort.
Neil has published and presented on library management issues as well as issues related to collections. He is a recipient of the 2014 Ida and George Eliot prize from the Medical Library Association, an award that honours a published work that has been judged most effective in furthering medical librarianship in the previous year.

Mariya Maistrovskaya has accepted a 3-year appointment as the Institutional Repositories Librarian in the Information Technology Services Department, starting on March 1, 2015.
Mariya brings a scholarly communications background in working with DSpace-based repositories to her new role, from her former position at the International Development Research Centre in Ottawa. She also brings in-depth reference experience and cataloguing experience from her previous work at the Agriculture Canada Library. Mariya holds a Master of Library Science from St. John’s University, New York, and a Bachelor’s in Philology from the Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages in Kazakhstan. In her spare time, Mariya has contributed to the Multicultural History Society of Ontario by providing translations of the oral histories of Russian Immigrants to the MHSO Online Archive.

Peter Tran will be joining Scholars Portal to provide programming support for existing and new SP cloud-based services. As we move more and more to virtualized servers and storage, scripting for scaleable deployment and monitoring becomes more important. Peter will contribute to the skills of the team in this area.

Lorissa Kinna will be joining U of T as University College Librarian from January to June, 2015 while Margaret Fulford is on research leave. Lorissa attained her Master of Information from U of T in 2014 and also has an MA (2012) from the University of Glasgow, in Classics, and a BA (2010) from U of T. Lorissa has held student positions at a wide range of libraries: University College Library, Engineering & Computer Science Library, Royal Ontario Museum Library, Bayer Inc. Library and the Toronto Public Library.

Suzanne Marion is the new Manager of Human Resources for the UTL. Her first day at work will be Tuesday, January 20. Suzanne is an HR professional with over 15 years of experience delivering a full range of human resources services. She has worked in the public and non-profit sectors in progressive management roles, and most recently, at the Toronto Public Library where she focused her expertise on diversity and inclusiveness strategies and programs as its Diversity Consultant. Prior to joining the TPL, Suzanne held positions with HR Solutions for Success as Senior HR Business partner and as Director of Human Resources with Eva’s Initiatives. Suzanne will bring her personable leadership style and her strong client focus to the UTL with the objective to serve the needs of our librarians, staff, students and university-wide stakeholders. Suzanne is a member of the following HR professional associations – HRPA and Association of Professional Recruiters - and holds the CHRL and RPR designations. As Suzanne settles into the HR Manager role and we begin to return to full staff compliment and normal operations in the new year, I am certain the HR team can count on your continued support in 2015 and beyond. We look forward to welcoming Suzanne to the Library.

Courtney Lederer will be joining UTL as a Human Resources Generalist on January 19. Courtney is not a newcomer to U of T. She served for three years as Labour Relations Officer, assigned from central LR to the Library, prior to joining George Brown College in 2013 as its Senior HR Consultant. Courtney brings with her a broad range of HR skills as she has been an HR Generalist for over 14 years. She has extensive experience working in post-secondary academic settings. Her knowledge of the U of T environment combined with her general HR expertise will make her a valuable addition to our HR team. Courtney holds a BA from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Industrial Relations & Human Resources from the University of Toronto.

Kimberly Gyde has joined the Human Resources team as HR Administrator for the next twelve months while Sandra Charles is on parental leave. Kim brings over a decade of HR experience from the health care and hospital sector.

Andy Ling joined us on September 29 as Human Resources Generalist for a one-year term on a secondment from his home position as HR Generalist from University Operations where he has been since 2007. He was also Human Resources Advisor, Disability/Accommodation Case Coordinator, Human Resources Generalist and Senior Human Resources Generalist at the Humber River Regional Hospital. His credentials include an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Certificate in Human Resources Management.

Agatha Barc joined the staff of E.J. Pratt Library (Victoria University) in September of 2013 as a Reader Services and Instruction Librarian. In her role, she provides reference, research, and instruction services to faculty and students and also contributes to collection development.
She holds a Master of Information degree in Library and Information Science and Book History and Print Culture from the Faculty of Information, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in English literature from the University of Toronto.
Previously, Agatha worked as a Senior Web Development and Digitization Assistant at E.J. Pratt Library as well as a library assistant at the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Her research interests include the history of women in Canadian librarianship, the professionalization of library science education in the province of Ontario, and Canadian book history.

Rebecca Carmichael joined us on September 22 as our new Human Resources/Payroll Officer. Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts, Business Accounting diploma and Payroll Compliant Practitioner certificate. She is also working toward her Human Resources certificate and Certified Human Resources Professional designation. She was most recently a Human Resources Administrator and Payroll Administrator with the Halton District School Board.

Holly Inglis has been appointed to the position of Public Services Librarian, permanent stream, at the Rotman Business Information Centre (BIC).
Holly will be leading the training and instruction program in the BIC and providing reference and research services extensively, along with copyright support. She is also responsible for collection management, the BIC website and research guides, in addition to other BIC services and being active in various UTL and faculty committees.
Before joining the BIC, Holly worked for 5 years at the Canada Revenue Agency, where she was a research specialist. Holly has a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Western Ontario, and a BA (Hons.) from the University of Guelph.

Michael Dalton has been hired as the new Manager of Facilities, Security, Fire, Health and Safety at UTL, effective September 8.
Michael brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role, having worked for 14 years in the security and facility management fields. In his last position as Operations Director at Tyco Integrated Security Canada, he was responsible for a wide portfolio and successfully managed extensive security operations, staff supervision and training, health and safety issues, and multiple-site facility operations. He also brings a strong knowledge of security issues and technology. Michael is a dedicated professional who will work diligently to provide the highest level of assistance and support to his library and university stakeholders.

Nelly Cancilla and Graeme Slaght have joined the Scholarly Communications and Copyright Office as Copyright Librarians.
Nelly holds a BA in English Literature and Studio Art from Oakland University as well as an MI with a concentration in Library and Information Science from the University of Toronto. Most recently, Nelly was the Digital Asset Coordinator in the History of Medicine Department in U of T's Faculty of Medicine, where she managed the department's digital assets and collections, websites and social media accounts. She is particularly interested in the role and future of social media in academic communication.
Graeme holds a BA in English from Concordia University, a Certificate in Publishing from Ryerson University, and an MS in Information, specializing in Information Policy, from the University of Michigan. His most recent work at Michigan focused on the qualitative investigation of faculty use and non-use of institutional and other open access repositories through the prisms of tenure and disciplinary culture. At Michigan he also gained experience in acquisitions services, visual resource collections, the tracking and promotion of scholarly outcomes, and in the development of privacy-conscious data collection and surveillance systems.

Angela Henshilwood has been appointed to the position of Faculty Liaison & Instruction Librarian, permanent stream, at the Engineering & Computer Science Library (ECSL).
Angela's duties include faculty liaison for the Department of Civil Engineering, Division of Environmental Engineering & Energy Systems, and the Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program. She also oversees creation of eLearning materials and coordinates instruction for ECSL including our new GPS and CCR programs. In addition, Angela manages ECSL's reference service, supervises ECSL GSLAs, and leads or contributes to a number of other major projects, such as transfer of materials to Downsview and ECSL's Personal Librarian project. She is also active in a number of UTL and faculty committees.
Previous to this position Angela served at ECSL as a contract liaison instruction and reference librarian, performing similar duties. Angela has also worked at the UTM Library as a Reference & Research Support Specialist and served as a GSLA at ECSL for two years.
Angela graduated with high distinction with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and was a recipient of the William Waters Award. She holds a Master of Information Studies (MISt) from the Faculty of Information Studies at the University of Toronto.

Michila Liyanage joined the library Finance and Administration team as a Senior Business Office Associate on August 11. Michila has spent many years working as an accountant in the health care and financial services industry and he is a long-time volunteer for the DECA Ontario. Michila’s hobbies include running, reading, staying up to date on new technology and the automotive industry.
Michila has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Windsor and Certificate in Risk Management from the University of Toronto SCS. He is also a member of the Certified Management Accountants of Ontario and Canadian Risk and Insurance Management Society. Michila is looking forward to providing his expertise and excited to be part of the team.

Stephen Crotty has been appointed to the position of Senior Serials Acquisitions Specialist in the Book & Serials Order Section of the Collection Development Department. Stephen has been a member of the Collection Development Department for 11 years and, as Senior Acquisitions/Administration Associate, has been helping build collections for over a decade. Stephen will begin his new duties on September 2, 2014.

Rea Devakos will be the new OCUL Projects Officer, effective October 1. This is a central role in OCUL administration requiring extensive knowledge, experience and collaborative initiative, and we are delighted that Rea has agreed to join the OCUL staff team.
Rea is well known to many of us in OCUL because of her scholarly communications leadership in Canada. She will be seconded to OCUL from the University of Toronto Libraries, where she coordinates scholarly communications programs. Her UTL portfolio includes repository, journal and conference hosting service management and development. Rea served as the Ontario region lead for the Synergies project.
Rea’s broader University of Toronto experience includes health libraries’ service, health resources licensing and COAHL membership, labour negotiations, and library instruction. Before joining UTL, Rea held a variety of public service and management positions in various types of libraries, including Vancouver Community College, Capilano College, Legal Services of BC and Vancouver Public Library. Rea earned her second post-graduate degree, a Masters of Health Sciences, in health services research in 2000 and she received the OCUFA Service Award in 2013.
Rea will be working closely with Carol Stephenson over the next two months as Carol completes her term as the OCUL Projects Officer and Rea prepares to join OCUL. Thanks once again to Carol for all of her excellent work in the past three years to position us so well for this transition to our third Projects Officer.

The Scholarly Communications and Copyright Office is pleased to welcome its new librarian, Stephanie Orfano. Stephanie holds a BA from Western University and a MISt from the University of Toronto. Most recently, Stephanie was the Social Science Librarian at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), responsible for the coordination of branch library operations and reference support in all social science disciplines as well as data and statistics. In addition, Stephanie has worked as the copyright liaison for both Durham College and UOIT, and was responsible for managing copyright requests, evaluating compliance requirements and building awareness around copyright policies with university administration, faculty, staff and students.

Judith Logan from Reference & Research Services is doing an exchange with ITS over the summer to work on the library website redesign project. On the project, Judith will perform the content audit and rewrite process, including reworking the UTL Web Style Guide and migrating content to the beta site for the fall. Judith will be with ITS approximately one day per week until the beta launch in the fall.

Soheila Nikzadeh will be the new Reading Room Coordinator & Derived Cataloguer in the Department of Rare Books & Special Collections of the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. Soheila is currently a Senior Preservation Associate in the UTL Bindery. She will begin her new duties on July 14.

Dear Colleagues,
For some time, I have thought that Julie Hannaford’s current title, Associate Librarian for Humanities and Social Sciences, does not describe adequately the scope of her responsibilities. As many of you are aware, her two immediate predecessors held the title of Deputy Chief Librarian which is, I believe, a more appropriate title given the range of her duties across the libraries, particularly given her role in administration of the Policies for Librarians, and given the fact that she is frequently called on to assume responsibility for the operation of the libraries in my absence, to represent the Chief Librarian and the libraries in various venues, and to chair a variety of meetings in my absence. Accordingly, I am changing her title to Deputy Chief Librarian effective immediately. This will not change the current term of her administrative appointment nor will it alter the current organization chart and the current reporting relationships.
I want to acknowledge and thank Julie for her wise counsel over the three years I have worked with her as well as for her dedication to the University of Toronto Libraries. Please join me in thanking her for her many accomplishments and her hard work on behalf of the libraries. I look forward to continuing to work with her.

Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to announce that I am changing Caitlin Tillman’s title to Associate Chief Librarian for Collections and Materials Management effective July 1. As part of this change and after consultation with Alastair Boyd, the Cataloguing, Materials and Bibliographic Processing Department will also report to Caitlin rather than directly to me. I believe the title change reflects more accurately the scope of Caitlin’s duties and is more in line with the title of similar positions in other large research libraries including those represented in the Heads of Technical Services of Large Research Libraries and the Heads of Collection Development of Large Research Libraries. Caitlin is, of course, a member of and strong contributor to both groups. I believe that having the Cataloguing Department report to her will help facilitate the smooth coordination of collection building and materials management in the central libraries, all aspects of which are critical to our faculty and students and a core part of the mission of the library. This will not change the current term of Caitlin’s administrative appointment.
I want to acknowledge and thank Caitlin for her work with all of you, with our faculty and students, as well as for her leadership locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally in collection development issues. She has made a positive difference at all of those levels. I look forward to continuing to work with her.

The Scholarly Communications and Copyright Office is pleased to welcome Teresa Pietropaolo-De Marco back to the Robarts Library as its new Scholarly Communications and Licensing Specialist. Teresa brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as she has been working in the UTL system since the 80s. Teresa joins us from OISE where she was working in the Interlibrary Loan and Access and Information department. We are pleased to have her join us!

Leslie Barnes has joined Information Technology Services on June 9 in the new role of Digital Scholarship Librarian. Leslie holds a BA and MA in English from the University of Toronto, a PhD in English from New York University, and a MS in Library Science from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Leslie’s most recent work at UNC Chapel Hill has focused the on innovative presentation of digital scholarship using sustainable tools, and streamlining the workflows that make digital scholarship accessible. Her scholarly work has, in turn, provided first-hand experience in scholarly communication trends and digital research methods. In her new role at the University of Toronto Libraries, she will supporting new digital scholarship by connecting faculty and students to the digital content held by and created at the University of Toronto, using sustainable and scalable digital research tools, methods and frameworks. She will also work on the metadata standards that support the discovery, use, and curation of our local digital resources.

Nich Worby has been appointed the Government Information and Statistics Librarian effective July 1st. Nich attended Queens University studying English literature and completed his MISt. at the University of Toronto. He has been working as a reference librarian in Robarts Reference and Research Services since January 2014 having gained previous library experience in the Scott Library at York and the OISE Library.
Nich’s work since graduation has included reference service, guide creation to support research in government documents as well as collection development, digitization, web archiving and metadata creation. In his short time as a professional librarian here in Robarts, and in collaboration with colleagues from Material Processing, Reference and elsewhere, Nich has made good progress exploring ways forward in this transitional period in the evolution of government information collections. Nich also brings skills with statistical, repository and other software to his work here in Robarts.

Bonnie Horne has agreed to serve as Interim Director of the Science Libraries and the Gerstein Science Information Centre while we conduct a search for a successor to Sandra Langalnds. Bonnie joined UTL in 1975 as an Assistant Collections Librarian in the Sigmund Samuel Library after graduating with an MLS from the University of Toronto. She has held a variety of positions in the sciences including roles in reference, short-term loan and circulation and has been Resource Sharing and Access Services Coordinator since 2009. Bonnie has also contributed to UTL on a number of library construction projects including working as a project manager on the Morrison Pavilion, and renovation and expansion projects at Robarts, UTL @ Downsview and the Engineering and Computer Science Library. In addition, Bonnie has been an active colleague on a number of library and university committees, and served as President of the University of Toronto Faculty Association in 1990-92. I am deeply grateful to Bonnie for accepting this role and look forward to working with her as a member of the Library Executive Committee. Please join me in welcoming Bonnie to her new role.

Elizabeth Ridolfo has been appointed to the new position of Special Collections Projects Librarian in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. Liz holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from York University and a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto's iSchool.
Most recently, Liz has been a Nicholls Fellow and contract librarian at the Fisher Library. Prior to this, she worked for five years as a supervisor and collections specialist at the Internet Archive Canada. In her new position, Liz will be an active member of the special collections team at Fisher, participating in reference service, rare book cataloguing, seminars and teaching, and exhibitions. Her area of special focus will be moving the Fisher Library forward in digital initiatives. Liz will begin her new duties on July 1st.

Josefina Siao has joined the Collection Development Department, effective May 20. Josie was previously with Finance and Administration, UTL, where she was a Senior Business Office Associate. In her new role as the E-Resource Specialist in the Digital Acquisitions Unit, she will provide support to all aspects of digital collections acquisition and maintenance. Laura Anderson has been appointed as Director for Strategic Initiatives, effective May 1. As Director for Strategic Initiatives, Laura will serve as a member of the Chief Librarian's Executive Committee. She will conduct research in a variety of areas to further the UTL strategic plan and initiatives and to support the information needs of the Executive Committee and the Chief Librarian. She will monitor our strategic plan initiatives. She will prepare a variety of documents for internal administrative use as well as external use such as assisting with preparing our annual budget proposals. She will also work with various groups to monitor the status of various activities around the libraries and report back to the Executive Committee and to me to ensure that these activities received appropriate administrative attention when needed.

Baqer Hussaen was recently appointed to the position of Human Resources Assistant. Baqer holds an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology and Health Sciences from York University and was recently a Human Resources Generalist and a Safety Coach with Chrysler Canada Inc. He has HR generalist and project coordination experience, including creating human resources plans for training and education, health and safety, recruitment, performance management systems and employee relations. He has held positions in organizational development and change management where the focus has been on cultural transformation and organizational effectiveness. His commitment to client service will be an asset to the Libraries. He will provide a wide range of HR support services to our UTL HR team. Lida Rahguzar was recently appointed as a Senior Business Office Associate in the Finance and Administration department. She graduated from York University with a bachelor of Administrative Studies. I am writing to inform you that, after a unanimous recommendation from the Consultative Committee, I have offered the position of Director of Library Information Technology Services to Sian Meikle, and she has accepted. Sian has done an exceptional job as Interim Director for the last two years for which I am deeply grateful. Over many years she has been a vital member of the library and ITS staff providing innovative leadership in developing many important services. I know she will continue to provide extraordinary leadership to the ITS department and to all UTL libraries on information technology and other issues. I am delighted that she has agreed to accept this position on a permanent basis. The work of the ITS Department is critical to the success and future of the library, and I look forward to working with Sian and and the ITS staff over the next few years. I want to thank the Consultative Committee members who spent much time and gave much thought to this process. I also want to thank all of you who took time to attend various presentations and meetings and submitted very thoughtful evaluations.

Dylanne Dearborn has been appointed Physics Librarian/Research Data Librarian (Sciences & Engineering (S&E)).
She commences work as the Physics Librarian/ Research Data Librarian (S & E) immediately. This permanent status stream position is shared jointly between the Department of Physics and UTL. Dylanne has served successfully in this dual role as a contract librarian since July, 2011. In particular, she participated as a member of the UTL team in the ARL E-Science Institute, 2012-13 to begin the process of developing a shared data management agenda for UTL. She will continue in this role working alongside other UTL colleagues to move this important initiative forward. In 2010 Dylanne acted as Chemistry Librarian during P. Meindl’s research leave. As a graduate student at the iSchool, Dylanne served as a GSLA at Gerstein where she was involved in reference work and a number of web projects. Dylanne has a broad base of experience which includes working as a freelance consultant on database curation and taxonomy and assisting with the redesign of the website of the Gerstein-based Health Science Information Consortium of Toronto (HSICT).
In her position Dylanne will continue to be based half time in the Physics Library and spend the remainder of her time as Research Data Librarian (S & E). In the role of Physics Librarian, reporting to the Chair, Department of Physics, Dylanne will be responsible for the operation of the Physics Library and work proactively and collaboratively with Physics faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and staff to provide reference service, in-depth research assistance, faculty liaison, and information literacy including one-on-one or group/classroom instruction. In addition, she will continue to work with the Chair and CAO to develop a plan for service improvements and the upcoming library renovation via the innovative use of new technologies, including but not restricted to assisting with web and data related projects. In the role of Research Data Librarian (S & E), reporting to the Director, Science Libraries, Dylanne will continue to work collaboratively with other University data librarians and science librarians to develop a sustainable Science and Engineering Research Data service that will integrate appropriately with other library data services. She will provide leadership in the area of data stewardship for science research data at UTL and work with the science research community to develop library services that assist faculty, researchers, and students with managing, curating, preserving and archiving their research data. Dylanne will also provide Reference & Research Services to faculty and students in both of her roles.
Heather Cunningham, Acting Coordinator, Reference & Research Unit, Gerstein and I are very pleased to announce that Erica Lenton started at Gerstein on March 3rd as a Faculty Liaison & Instruction Librarian. Erica obtained her Master of Library and Information Studies (area of concentration: health/medical information) in 2012 from the University of Western Ontario. She also has a Master of Arts in the History of Medicine from McGill University. For the past year, Erica has been working as a Medical Librarian at Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Health Services in Edmonton. As a medical librarian she was responsible for providing research and instructional services to a variety of health professionals in addition to creating and delivering web-based education tutorials.
At Gerstein as a member of the Reference & Research Unit Erica will work as one of two Nursing liaison librarians with Patricia Ayala, and will also serve as faculty liaison to the History of Medicine in conjunction with P. Oldfield, Fisher and E. Goettler, UTM. In addition, Erica will be involved in a wide variety of reference and information instruction and collaborate with others on multimedia and web documentation for both. As such, she will attend Reference Services Committee meetings and participate on a number of other committees, as appropriate. She is interested in research data and will work with the Research Data Librarian and other data knowledgeable librarians to extend services to her liaison area faculty and graduate students.

Tys Klumpenhouwer joined the University of Toronto Archives as Records Archivist starting on Monday, March 10, 2014. Tys most recently held a contract position at the University of Toronto Archives processing the archival records of Nick Thierry. He has also held positions at the Presbyterian Church of Canada Archives and the Provincial Archives of Alberta. Voted Most Valuable Player in the 2013 Association of Canadian Archivists’ Annual East-West Baseball Game, Tys has proven himself a wonderful addition to any archival team. We are thrilled that he is joining ours!

Kirsta Stapelfeldt recently joined the University of Toronto Scarborough Library as Coordinator of the Digital Scholarship Unit. Kirsta holds MLIS and MA degrees from Dalhousie University. She comes to the library from the University of Prince Edward Island and the Islandora project, where she managed the development of the Islandora Digital Asset Stewardship platform and worked with UPEI’s Virtual Research Environment service. She has also worked as a consultant in the private sector for organizations developing and migrating large digital collections, and creating online research workflows, as well as in communications and undergraduate instruction.

Houman Behzadi joined the University of Toronto Libraries as the librarian responsible for music selection on February 3, 2014. Houman holds an MLIS degree from McGill University's School of Information Studies. In addition, he holds post-secondary degrees and diplomas in violin performance (from Western University, London, Ontario) and engineering (Central Azad University, Tehran, Iran). He has eight years of experience working in academic music libraries, including the Marvin Duchow Music Library at McGill University and the Music Library at Western University.
He will hold a split position, working for the central library system's Collection Development Department at Robarts Library, and for the Music Library at the Faculty of Music. In addition to selecting music materials (scores, books, sound recordings), he will be providing music reference and doing some music cataloguing.

Silvia Vong has been appointed to the position of Collaborative Learning Librarian at the John M. Kelly Library & Archives, University of St. Michael’s College, effective January 1, 2014.
Silvia has been working in this role since March 2012, during which time she has taught a third-year course in the Book and Media Studies program that focuses on archival concepts, information literacy, and research with primary sources. She has also worked on various e-learning related projects. In the Fall of 2013, Silvia began a one-year secondment with the Centre for Teaching Support and Innovation (CTSI) at UofT, where she works one day a week to help develop an Academic Integrity Tutorial and work on various teaching-related activities.
Prior to joining the Kelly Library & Archives, Silvia gained experience in reference, liaison work, copyright, and e-learning in positions at the University of Guelph-Humber, Brock University, York University, and Access Copyright.
Silvia holds a Master of Library and Information Science (2009) from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Education from York University (2013), and a BA (Hon) in Art History & Geography, from Queen’s University (2006).
In her role, Silvia will continue to teach at SMC, develop a plan for e-learning initiatives, and contribute to reference and instruction.

Heather Buchansky has been appointed to the position of Student Engagement Librarian, effective January 1, 2014.
Heather has been the Online Projects Librarian in the Robarts Library Reference and Research Services Department since June 2012. In that role, she developed and delivered innovative workshops, produced user guides in emerging technologies, developed data-driven assessment projects, and delivered reference and research support.
Heather holds a Master of Information from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen’s University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Exeter, and a Post-Diploma Certificate in Corporate Communications from Seneca College.
In her new role, Heather will develop and coordinate scalable library initiatives related to student engagement, information literacy, learning and orientation for undergraduate students, with an emphasis on information literacy skill-building of early-stage undergraduates and transfer students. Her initial focus will be coordination and expansion of the Personal Librarian program, as well as new initiatives to support student learning and provide library services where students expect to find them.

David Fernandez has been appointed to the new position of Rare Book Librarian in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. David holds a Master of Information, with a joint program in Book History and Print Culture, from the Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto.
During this past year, David worked as a Graduate Student Library Assistant at the Fisher Library, where he gained valuable experience in all aspects of rare book librarianship. David has also worked on special collections digitization projects with Victoria University Library, the Internet Archive Canada, and the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives. In his new position, David will be an active member of the special collections team at Fisher, participating in reference service, seminars and teaching, digital projects, and exhibitions. David’s first day of work was December 1, 2013.

Kelli Babcock has been appointed to the position of Digital Initiatives Librarian in the Information Technology Services Department. Kelli holds an MLIS degree from McGill University, specializing in Archival Studies, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from OCAD university. Kelli joins us from the University of Toronto Scarborough Library, where she was previously the Special Projects Librarian in the UTSC Library Digital Scholarship Unit. Kelli brings a broad range of experience in the development of digital collections and scholarly publications; in addition to her experience at UTSC, where she worked on the Bioline journal project and a range of digital archival projects, she has previously worked at the National Gallery of Canada, the McGill University Archives, Montreal's McCord Museum, and the Canadian Centre for Architecture. She is currently the president of the Archives Association of Ontario.
In her new role, Kelli will be working with teams of faculty, librarians, and technologist in the creation of new scholarly digital collections.

Dawn Wong has been appointed to the position of Public Service Librarian at the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library and the Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library, effective November 1, 2013.
Dawn holds a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Chinese Studies from the University of Alberta. She comes to the University of Toronto Libraries from Digital Initiatives, UBC and St. John’s College, UBC where she was a student librarian from 2011 to 2013. She also completed an internship at the Canada-Hong Kong Library in the summer of 2013. She brings to her new role, strong project management skills developed through participation in the Chinese Canadian Stories project at UBC and the Canada-Hong Kong project at CHKL, as well as considerable experience coordinating academic and public outreach events gained in her role as the academic coordinator for a Chinese Language program at UBC. She is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Taishanese.

Deborah Whiteman has been appointed to the position of Head, Department of Rare Books and Special Collections at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library.
Deborah comes to the University of Toronto Libraries from Santa Clara University where she was the Head of Archives and Special Collections. Previously, she held increasingly responsible roles in the Department of Special Collections at the Charles E. Young Research Library, UCLA. Deborah began her rare book career in the antiquarian book trade and has also managed a significant private library. She holds an MLIS from UCLA, with a specialization in rare books and manuscripts, and brings well-rounded skills and experience in all facets of rare book librarianship, including exhibitions, teaching, collection development, and donor and patron relations. Deborah will be a passionate advocate for the role of special collections in graduate and undergraduate education at the University of Toronto, and a strong supporter of the Fisher Library’s commitment to building a culture of engagement with our campus and local communities.

Vincci Lui recently joined the Gerstein Science Information Centre on a one-year contract as an Instruction & Liaison Librarian. Vincci obtained her Master of Information Studies in 2008 from U of T and for the past five years has been working as a liaison librarian at the Macdonald Campus Library of McGill University where she was a liaison to several life science departments, provided reference services, taught information literacy classes and was involved with promotion and outreach.

Juliya Borie was appointed in July to the permanent status stream Cataloguing Librarian position at Robarts Library. Since joining Robarts as a contract librarian in September, 2011, Juliya has taken on a range of cataloguing challenges, processing serials and other materials in a number of languages and formats. She has also been serving as an adjunct reference librarian since September 2012. In addition to these regular duties she has presented several staff training sessions about the new cataloguing code, RDA. At this year's TRY Conference she co-presented a session on cataloguing from the perspective of new cataloguers, and in the summer she co-presented a very successful session on linked data and serials at the annual NASIG conference.

Tracy Zahradnik recently accepted the Liaison and Instruction Librarian one-year split position at the Dentistry and Engineering & Computer Science libraries. In addition to her Master of Information from U of T, Tracy holds an MSc in Zoology from the University of Guelph and a PhD in Biology from Simon Fraser University. While pursuing her studies at U of T, she worked as a Student Library Assistant at the Dentistry Library, and as a Graduate Student Library Assistant at the Engineering & Computer Science Library. She brings a wealth of experience to the team from her previous roles as teaching assistant, research assistant, conference presenter and peer-reviewed author in the sciences.

John Papadopoulos will be joining the John W. Graham Library as Nicholls Librarian & Director, starting June 1, 2015.
John is currently the Chief Law Librarian of the Bora Laskin Law Library. John is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law (JD, 1993) and the Faculty of Information (MISt, 1997). John joined the Faculty of Law as a librarian in 2003 and has been Chief Librarian since 2009. Prior to joining the University of Toronto, he worked at a number of Toronto law firms as a reference librarian.
As Chief Librarian, John oversaw an improvement of library services for faculty, expanded the print and digital monographic collections, and worked to establish a legal research and writing program at the Faculty of Law. He is responsible for strategic planning and overseeing all aspects of the administration and operations of the Law Library.
John is an adjunct professor who has taught in the Faculty of Law’s Legal Research and Writing program. He has also taught at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information. He speaks regularly at library conferences on legal information and library management topics. He is a co-author of The Practical Guide to Canadian Legal Research (3rd ed, Carswell, 2010) with a new edition forthcoming in 2015.

Klara Maidenberg has been appointed to the new role of Assessment Librarian, effective April 1, 2015.
Klara has a strong background in collection assessment, service evaluation, project management and collaboration. She has worked at Scholars Portal since 2011 and serves as both OCUL’s Assessment and Evaluation Librarian and Project Manager for Ask a Librarian -- a service she was instrumental in launching. Klara holds a BA and a B.Ed from York University, and is a graduate of the University of Toronto iSchool. She has worked with colleagues throughout Ontario on collection and services assessment projects and has presented on her work at ALA, ER&L, the ARL Library Assessment Conference, OLA, and at the 2013 Qualitative & Quantitative Methods in Libraries Conference in Rome.
In her new role, Klara will report to both Caitlin Tillman in Collection Development and Lari Langford in Access and Information Services. She will also work closely with the User Experience Librarian and the Chief Librarian’s Office to provide leadership for the development of a comprehensive and strategic program of assessment within the U of T Libraries.

Lisa Gayhart will move to the new role of User Experience Librarian, effective February 1, 2015.
Lisa brings a wealth of knowledge about usability, web design, accessibility and assessment to her new role, together with a great deal of experience in seeking and incorporating a range of user input in the design of digital services. Additionally, in her former role as a Digital Communications Services Librarian, she built a broad knowledge of the University of Toronto, together with collegial networks that will support her continued collaborative work as she moves into her new focus in the area of user experience. Before joining the University of Toronto Libraries in 2013, Lisa held roles focusing in strategic communications, digital service assessment, and website development at Mount Sinai Hospital, the Region of Waterloo, and the Region of Waterloo Public Library.
Lisa holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature and Global Studies from Wilfred Laurier University. In addition to publishing articles on responsive web design and IT communications, Lisa has presented widely on user research, accessibility, and a range of other topics.
In the new role of User Experience Librarian, Lisa looks forward to collaborating with staff throughout the Libraries and the University, to assess our user community’s digital behaviours and needs, and to advocate for a consistent and excellent user experience.

Bikramjit Singh has been extended in his appointment, initially with Scholars Portal last year to help out with the cloud storage project. Bikram will add a needed set of hands to managing the various systems and services of Scholars Portal in the coming months.

Leanne Trimble will be replacing Steve Marks as the Scholars Portal representative to Portage and CPDN and will be working with OCUL over the coming months to better understand the needs of member libraries and how SP can develop services to meet those needs.

Ikee Gibson has been appointed to the position of Operations and Building Services Officer, beginning January 5.
In this position Ikee will be responsible for the administration of building operations and services for UTL, in order to ensure that services and facilities continue to operate in an efficient and effective manner. He will be the first point of contact for all F&S issues. He will be responsible for issuing SORs and act as liaison with the property manager, trades and engineers. Prior to taking on this position, Ikee was the Night Supervisor for the Robarts extended hours service, since 2008. He is very approachable and is known for his pragmatic approach to solving problems.

Steve Marks has been appointed to the new role of Digital Preservation Librarian in the Information Technology Services Department, effective February 1.
Steve has been the Digital Preservation Librarian at Scholars Portal since 2010, where he has engaged in a wide range of preservation work. In addition to directing the certification of the Scholars Portal journal repository as the first Trusted Digital Repository in Canada, he directed the implementation of Scholars Portal’s OAIS-compliant preservation system and developed policies and workflows to ensure the long-term preservation of all Scholars Portal collections. Additionally, he has been closely involved in the Canadian Polar Data Network, and more recently, the Ontario Library Research Cloud project. In addition to publishing and presenting widely in the field, Steve serves on a number of associations and committees, including the CARL Portage (formerly Project ARC) committee, the Research Data Canada Training and Education and Infrastructure working groups, and the OLITA Council. Steve holds an AS, Computer Science from Santa Barbara City College, a BA in Anthropology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and an MLIS from the University of Toronto.
Steve is looking forward to working with staff across our library system to research, assess, develop and implement digital preservation policies, strategies and systems that support the preservation of our broad range of born-digital and digitized collections.

We are delighted to welcome Paul Whittam to ITS, where he will be joining Stephen Hong and Alex Cheng on the ITS Staff Workstation Support Team, filling the recently vacated Computer Systems Specialist position. Paul brings a range of great experience to his new role from his previous position on the InfoCommons Help Desk.
Paul is currently pursuing a BA with majors in East Asian Studies and Contemporary Asian Studies. He has also previously studied at Beijing Normal University, where he became fluent in Mandarin. In his free time, he is working on the organizing committee of the 2015 INDePth ("Interrogating Notions of Development and Progress") Conference, to be held here in Toronto next month.

Askari Husain has rejoined the Access and Information Services department as the Evening/Sunday Supervisor. He has moved from a Project Coordinator position in Library Administration, bringing many years of experience with the UTL system, which includes working in positions ranging from Student Library Assistant in the Robarts stacks, to positions in Robarts Resource Sharing and the Gerstein Science Information Centre, to serving as the Robarts Stacks Supervisor from 2009 - 2011.

John Noble is returning to the Access and Information Services department, to the position of Senior Access Services Associate. John has contributed many years of service at UTL, serving in positions in the Robarts stacks, in Shipping and Receiving, and most recently, in the Engineering and Computer Science Library.

Katya
Pereyaslavska, the Scholars Portal Accessibility Librarian, will be taking on the role of Association of Research Libraries Visiting Program Officer for Accessibility for one year starting October 1, 2014. Katya will continue working for Scholars Portal, dividing her time between SP and ARL and will continue working from the Scholars Portal offices in Robarts Library.
As VPO, Katya will work with the ARL Accessibility and Universal Design Working Group to develop an outreach program, directed at the scholarly publishing community, to raise awareness of the obligations and responsibilities of publishers with respect to providing accessible content to libraries serving students and researchers who may be print disabled. The engagement with the publishing community will encompass the development of written guidelines and recommendations, based on study of best-practice initiatives, that can be used to better understand the needs of users of all abilities and the formats and delivery models that are required to address the range of needs of that diverse group. The VPO will also work in partnership with accessibility experts across North America to create opportunities for publishers, librarians, and print disabled library users, and, indeed, all users, to meet (virtually and in person) to discuss issues and concerns and to create an active dialogue between stakeholders that will encourage the development of new and innovative solutions to the problems of equitable access.
Katya's engagement with ARL recognizes the shared interest of ARL, UTL and OCUL in enhancing accessibility in higher education. Developing awareness among (and partnerships with) scholarly publishers to achieve that end is a shared strategic goal of all three organizations.

Ian Whyte has been appointed to the position of Chief Librarian at the University of Toronto Mississauga, effective December 1, 2013 to December 31, 2016. This follows an international search by a broadly representative Consultative Committee and the executive search firm, Janet Wright & Associates Inc. Ian has a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario. Before coming to the UTM Library in August 2003, he was Head, Research and Instructional Services, Allyn and Betty Taylor Library, the University of Western Ontario. In the role of Associate Librarian, Teaching & Learning at UTM, he was accountable for the management of the Library’s teaching and learning mandates, including oversight for the Library’s instruction program, use of instructional technology, Blackboard support services, reference and research, and the Learning Commons. He also managed front-line services and lead service assessment, marketing, and communication initiatives. Ian has served as UTM’s Acting Chief Librarian since April 16, 2012.

Sheril Hook has been appointed to the position of Chief Librarian at the University of St. Michael's College, effective January 1, 2014. Sheril has been with the UTM Library since December 2004 when she joined the UTM Library to lead instructional initiatives as the Library’s Coordinator of Instruction Services and teach the Library’s credit course, Foundation of Information Studies. Throughout her tenure at UTM, Sheril has continued to be active in teaching (CCIT and iSchool) and research, lead library instruction initiatives, participated on numerous professional association committees, as well as assumed editorial board member responsibilities for two peer-reviewed publications. Sheril has also been successful in her role as Curriculum Development Librarian and as liaison for CCIT and the Department of English and Drama.

Helen Kula will be joining the University of Toronto Libraries as Librarian, Institute for Management and Innovation (IMI), University of Toronto Mississauga as of Monday December 16, 2013. Helen most recently has worked at the MaRS Discovery District as their Data Product Manager, MaRS Data Catalyst since January 2011, for which she managed relationships with academic partners and stakeholders in Ontario’s innovation ecosystem, and previously as their Senior Information Specialist, MaRS Market Intelligence from May 2006 to December 2010. As the first Librarian at MaRS she was responsible for launching their market intelligence service and leading the development of MaRS’ Startup Library. Prior to working at the MaRS Discovery District Helen worked at the Rotman Business Information Centre as a Business Information Specialist and Public Services Librarian. Helen has particular knowledge of and expertise in data, business startups, and innovation.Helen has a MISt from the Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto and an MA, English Literature, from McGill University. Helen will be working with Andrew Graham to develop programming for UTM’s Li Koon Chun Finance Learning Centre.

Amber Allen will be the University College Librarian from January to June, 2014, while Margaret Fulford is on research leave.
Amber has a Master of Information (U of T, 2011) and a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing (York, 2009). While in graduate school Amber worked as a student assistant at the UC Library, Robarts Library, and Kelly Library; since graduation she has worked at Herzing College and Humber College.

Dear Colleagues,
As many of you are aware, last year we invited two consultants to review the technical service operations in the central library system. Following receipt of their report, I named a Technical Services Review Implementation Team to consider their report and to consider which recommendations should be implemented and when. The team included Alastair Boyd, Graham Bradshaw, Sian Meikle, Caitlin Tillman, and Peter Wilson.
The Implementation Team has recently recommended to me that “that the Serial and Order Sections be merged to form a single administrative unit, which would handle all aspects of print orders for both monographs and serials. This includes the approval process, firm orders, standing orders and subscriptions. At the same time the acquisition of electronic resources will be handled by the new Digital Acquisitions Unit working in collaboration with the recently established Electronic Resources Management Group”. A copy of the Implementation Team’s full recommendation is attached.
I have approved the recommendation. Effective February 3, 2014 Don McLeod will head a newly created Acquisitions Unit to manage print monographic and serial acquisitions. His title will be Head, Book and Serials Acquisitions, Collection Development. Weijing Yuan will head the Electronic Acquisitions Unit. Both departments will continue to report to Caitlin Tillman. Staff in both departments will continue to perform their current duties. Job profiles for filled positions will not change, although over time we will look at cross training as new procedures are implemented.
In conjunction with this reorganization, Sharon Dyas-Correia has been appointed Senior Serials Strategist and Collections Librarian for Open Access Initiatives effective February 3, 2014. She will continue to report to Caitlin Tillman, Head of Collection Development. In her new role, Ms. Dyas-Correia will assist the University of Toronto Libraries Collection Development Department through analysis and activities in maintaining, developing, analyzing and increasing international discoverability of its serials resources and collections and aid the University of Toronto Libraries Collection Development Department in the design, development and advancement of Open Access Collections initiatives through analysis, envisioning, design, participation and implementation of projects and through other undertakings related to these . These are collaborative responsibilities that will require Ms. Dyas-Correia to work with librarians across all U of T campuses involved in collection development and serials. Ms. Dyas-Correia has been with the University of Toronto Libraries since 1985. She most recently served as Head, Serials and Collections Librarian for Open Access Initiatives and is an active member of the North American Serials Interest Group, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Serials and Other Continuing Resources Subcommittee, and several other professional organizations and committees. Ms. Dyas-Correia has been the editor of the Balance Point column in the Serials Review for many years. She has published in and edited peer reviewed journals. Her research interests include a variety of scholarly communication and serials issues.

Lisa Sherlock has been appointed as Victoria University’s chief librarian as of September 1st. Lisa holds a BA in English from York University, and an MLS and MA from the University of Toronto. She joined the E.J. Pratt Library in 1993 and became head of Reader Services in 1999. Among her many accomplishments, she chaired the web advisory committee that planned the library’s highly praised web page, and has been especially engaged in working with faculty members to facilitate student use of the library’s archives and special collections. She will continue the work of Professor Robert C. Brandeis, chief librarian since 1977, to actively build collaborative relationships with researchers, faculty, students and other communities of interest, with the shared goal of enhancing, preserving and promoting Vic’s world‐renowned collections.

The Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI) is pleased to announce the appointment of instructional librarian secondees for the 2013-2014 academic year. The Partnering for Academic Student Success (PASS) initiative is a collaboration between CTSI and the University of Toronto Libraries. Now entering its fourth year, this partnership brings instructional librarians from all three campuses together with CTSI staff to work on various information literacy initiatives, highlight and encourage collaborations with instructors, and support the effective use of library resources in instruction. The overall goal of PASS is to increase capacity for integrative learning and academic excellence within classrooms.
Rita Vine, Head, Faculty and Student Engagement, and John Bolan, Instructional and Reference Librarian at the Bora Laskin Law Library, will be continuing their work with CTSI and PASS for another year. Joining the team this year will be Silvia Vong, Collaborative Learning Librarian at the John. M. Kelly Library, St. George Campus, Whitney Kemble, Historical & Cultural Studies Liaison Librarian at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and Mindy Thuna,Science Liaison Librarian at the HMALC Library, University of Toronto Mississauga (beginning January 2014).
Caitlin Tillman, has received unanimous recommendation of the Consultative Committee for reappointment as Associate Chief Librarian for Collections and Materials Management, to a seven year term effective January 1, 2015.

Bonnie Horne will continue her interim role as Director of the Science Libraries and Gerstein until April 30, 2015 while the search for the Associate Chief Librarian for Science Research and Information is still in progress.

John Papadopoulos has been reappointed as Chief Librarian of the Bora Laskin Law Library for a five-year term effective September 1, 2014. The consultative committee acknowledged John’s wonderful work at the Law Library, within the University’s Faculty of Law, as well as across the Canadian legal librarian community, as a whole. John is a highly skilled law librarian, as well as an able administrator, whose leadership style is both collegial and forward thinking.
