Getting Started with Copyright

Under Fair Dealing you can:

Scan/upload to Blackboard (Bb)/photocopy up to 10% or 1 chapter of a book, whichever is greater

Post the PDF of 1 entire article from an issue of a journal in Bb (after checking in the catalogue record under "Permitted Uses" to see if you can do this - see below for how to do this)

Best practice is to provide links to the article instead of uploading PDFs to Bb

Other ways to provide materials:

Public domain, open access, and other uncopyrighted material can be used freely

The Library can help to negotiate transactional licenses for content that is not freely available, not licensed or is outside of fair dealing

The Library Reserves Collection contains print copies of required books for most classes

Contact your liaison librarian or the Reserves section of the Library for assistance in providing materials for your students
